Why wouldn't they? They made the application in time and I'd imagine filled all the correct criteria for a 1st Division Application...

I agree. I think people are under the impression that because FORAS were not granted a licence this week then they can't get one. However, the announcement actually said "The application from FORAS has been deferred pending the outcome of the Cork City decision". I assume that means if Cork City don't get one then FORAS will get one. See http://www.loi.ie/index.php/about/pr...-2010-licences

Fair play to you and other Cork fans on here for saying that. One small good thing that might come of all this is that it seems even Cork people now know that there is no anti-Cork/pro-Dublin conspiracy within the FAI. I've lost count of the number of times I've heard such allegations over the past 20 years or so that I've been going to games - on message boards, in person on Ireland trips, even from Roy Keane's pontificating on the tv.

This whole saga has proved beyond doubt that if anything the opposite is true - it's clear the FAI believe that Cork is so important to the game in this country that they will go out of their way to help them stay in the top flight, and if a club from Dublin was in the same position there is no way they would have got the same treatment.

They applied for a 1st Division licence as a backup in case Cork City got denied a licence or went belly up (which is likely to be the case)

Although I'm still a little confused as to how FORAS would get a place in the First Division even if they get a licence ahead of other teams...

Following the Derry precedent. Before the Derry drama kicked off they had applied only for an A Licence. Cobh's not getting a First Division Licence simplifies it nicely come to think of it!.

FORAS have a strong application in and met every deadline laid down comfortably.
It was/is only ever intended as a PlanB, but it's there.

Yes, I believe there is a verbal agreement in place with the MFA.

I know you weren't, if the reply sounded snippy it really wasn't meant to [well the meeting deadlines portion was meant to sound snippy towareds a certain other application that may have come out of Cork].

What are the chances of the take over falling through and cork not getting a pre licence and going down a division?

Sharks are as tough as those football fans who take their shirts off during games in England in January, only more intelligent.

If the Cork takeover falls through, then Cork City won't get any license at all & Foras will play in the 1st Div next year. Bray will be promoted to the Premier Div again.

If the debts really are €1m as is now being reported, I cannot see a takeover going ahead. It would be financial madness.

CCFC will not get a licence for a dog never mind a licence for a club if the takeover fails.

I'm sure theres someone somewhere that can help with these nightmares, either that or you have one hell of an imagination.

I understand that Cobh's financial statements were not correct & so they will spend a further season in the A Div.

If Cork City don't get a license Foras can use these players as most of them are not registered with the FAI. In any case there are lots of players available. I'm sure Foras would already have all this in hand.

If the takeover fails Cork City will be refused a license of any kind.

What you say is true but only I believe since the FAI took over running the League. In the bad old days of the League of Ireland itself I think there was definitely a bias of some sort whether perceived or otherwise. I know where the FAI are coming from in all of this. The League needs a Cork team in it but its the way they go about it that I don't agree with.Make your rules & stick to them. The clubs know whats needs to be done in order to get a license but there are still some out there who cling to the bad old ways. What has happened this season hasn't done anything to guide clubs away from the old ways.Next season we will have the same problems with some other club who will then point to what is happening now. What will the FAI do then ? Probably fudge it again.

Ok, so the paranoia still hasn't died.

On this season's evidence I think it would depend on where the team is located. If outside Leinster or thereabouts then yes, they may well fudge again, as they have shown on more than one occasion that they believe maintaining a regional representation is more important than fair play. Makes you wonder what other ways that manifests itself too, but that's another debate. Anyway, if a Dublin based team is guilty of even a fraction of the transgressions that Cork have been guilty of, then I'm sure they'll be f**ked out of the premier without a second thought. It's already happened to 2 of the "big" 4 in Dublin, no fudge warranted there apparently.
