I can see TNB now... Annual income twenty pounds; annual expenditure, nineteen six, result happiness. Annual income, twenty pounds; annual expenditure, twenty pounds ought and six, result - everythings fine, nothing to see here, we'll get 10,000 a game and all will be well.
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.
Cork City Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Liam Meaney as the club’s new General Manager. The role encompasses supervision of the day-to-day running of the club, along with implementing plans and structures for the club’s future, and also sees Mr. Meaney take on the role of Club Licensing Officer.
Liam Meaney is well known in local sporting circles having represented Cork at both hurling and football at various levels. He is also a member of Blackrock Hurling Club and has won three senior hurling titles with that club. He has been heavily involved in various fundraising initiatives at Blackrock and has served as the club’s Club Development Officer. Professionally, Liam has previously worked with both AIB and INBS in a management capacity and currently runs his own financial services company.
Speaking to CorkCityFC.ie, Mr. Meaney said: “I am greatly looking forward to the task at hand. It is widely acknowledged that 2009 was an extremely difficult year for the football club, and we are making every effort to learn from the difficulties the club has experienced and to ensure that stability returns to the club. While the season has only just come to an end, we are working to ensure that Cork City FC enters 2010 on a strong footing.”
“It is imperative that our budget for 2010 is based on realistic projections. The wage costs at the club will be reduced, as the first priority is to safeguard the future of the club. Many factors have had an impact on the club’s income this year, with sponsorship and attendances both being below expectations. The 2010 budget therefore reflects much more conservative projections.”
“One of the major positives to come out of this season has been the emergence of young, local players such as Kevin Long, Gareth Cambridge and Stephen Mulcahy. Cork City FC is the only professional League of Ireland club in the southern half of this country, and there is huge talent on show at all levels of the game in this county, and indeed this province. We will place a lot of emphasis on allowing local talent to showcase their abilities and offer them the opportunity to make a career in professional football.”
“Cork City FC is, at heart, a club which has always had deep roots in the community to which it belongs. It is vital that, at every level, we return to those roots, and seek to build on the pride our supporters have in their club. The club is looking to work closely with our supporters, local clubs and businesses in order to have a club of which we can all be extremely proud.”
“While it has been a difficult year, it is to the credit of all involved that the team has been successful in achieving European qualification. We have all seen in recent years how clubs from the so-called smaller nations have achieved qualification to the group stages of European competitions, and indeed some of the results achieved by League of Ireland clubs have been extremely impressive, so this is something we can all look forward to for next season.”
First the Billy Morgan crap and now this?
What doesnt Coughlan just cut the crap and re-register the club as a GAA club now. Seems to be the direction he wants to go in for a long time. First ever interview I ever heard with him, he spent half the interview wafflin on how he admired the amatuer status of the GAA. His next annoucement will be that he is not going to pay players next season (just realised how corny that is).

Correct, limerick failed to get a first division licence but limerick 37 was invited to apply for one so it should be the same with cork and derry if a new set up or name change applies for one.
The A championship didn't exist for Limerick37 iirc. They were invited to apply to the then bottom tier. Just goes to show the fudge that Derry is.
As for Meaney, he's been pretty much general manager of the club for months now. He and Coughlan are close, the appointment is no surprise.
Cork City: Making 'Dream Team' seem realistic since 2007.
According to our forum, and the radio, the FAI are bringing charges of 'bringing the game into disrepute' against Tom Coughlan.
