As regards to O'Keefe "owning" a player, this sounds worse than it is. It is common (began in South America) for businessmen to contribute to their local club in the form of a loan to pay the wages of a player. When said player moves on they recoup their investment and possibly make a profit. There should be a very direct paper trail to the club and it's all legal and above board. After all the player is simply an moveable asset.
