Most embarrasing sponsors....

Brighton in the nineties, when they were sponsored by Nobo.... Arsenal wearing Sega on their jerseys a while back, when Sega meant something rather rude when they were playing any Italian teams in the Champions League... as for eL teams, none spring to mind... apart from Pat the Baker for Longford Town way back...

Portsmouth with the nice big TY heart on the front of their Jersies.
Somewhere in Africa a team have their name right on the front of their Jersy, they are called something along the lines of,
"St. Pinatubo Wanka"

There is a coffee company called SegaFredo (Fredo means cold) and they dont go down too well with fans as sponsors either.

try cycling,they have hardwear depots (big matt),shoe companies(kelme),supermarkets(champion,super u),domestic appliance companies (fagor),among other glamourous sponsors

i remember waterford being sponsored by "waterford regional airport" when we played them in the LC a few years ago.

Waterford's current one is ridiculous too. Any sponsor that doen't cater to the greater public is bad...

Well Bosch & Lomb (spelling?) are a major employer in Waterford, and have strong links to the community there. They cater to the public of Waterford, and obviously feel its worthwhile.
There is a difference between having an "embarrassing" sponsor in the "funny/peculiar" name sense, and having a very localised sponsor.
Obviously a bigger company can give bigger sponsorship, but anyone prepared to put money into an EL team should be welcomed.

Everton were sponsored a few years back by Danka. Nothing to embarrassing about that, until one of my Liverpool-daft mates started changing the D to a W on every everton pic he saw - Big Dunc used to get it the worst!

What about Oxford United, who were sponsored by Wang.

Celtic when they played Lyon away, couldn't wear their sponsor's name because they were sponsored by an alcohol company which is outlawed in France.

I thought their shirt was a lot more attractive without the sponsor's name emblazoned across the front. I think sponsors names on the front of shirts look ugly.

Your right of course but their association with Waterford is a donation more than anything else. In terms of amrketing a league it'd look a lot better if we had Guinness et al sponsoring all clubs. The like sof Dundalk cabs ARE embarressing no matter how much money they pump in
