I remember Sheffield Wednesday being sponsored by MR tom!
Liverpool by Candy,
Brighton in the nineties, when they were sponsored by Nobo.... Arsenal wearing Sega on their jerseys a while back, when Sega meant something rather rude when they were playing any Italian teams in the Champions League... as for eL teams, none spring to mind... apart from Pat the Baker for Longford Town way back...
'Fascists dress in black and go round telling people what to do, where as priests.....'
I remember Sheffield Wednesday being sponsored by MR tom!
Liverpool by Candy,
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?
Sheff Weds are now sponsered by Chupa Chups (cue joke ). Just as well coz the suck!
Autoglass is an embarrassing sponsor IMO.
If at first you don't succeed, redefine success.
Portsmouth with the nice big TY heart on the front of their Jersies.
Somewhere in Africa a team have their name right on the front of their Jersy, they are called something along the lines of,
"St. Pinatubo Wanka"
Sega means choking the chicken, you know ... a hand shuffle !!Originally posted by PAURO 7

There is a coffee company called SegaFredo (Fredo means cold) and they dont go down too well with fans as sponsors either.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
Aren't referees in the Scottish league sponsored by Specsavers?
try cycling, they have hardwear depots (big matt),shoe companies(kelme),supermarkets(champion, super u),domestic appliance companies (fagor),among other glamourous sponsors
Pat the Baker's a national, locally based company!?! Most embarrassing I can think of is "Dundalk Cabs" for Dundalk, obv...Originally posted by PAURO 7

If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.
AC Milan were sponsord by Pooh jeans in the early 80's. Remember seeing Joe Jordan wearing the shirt.
We played Clydebank a few years ago and they were sponsored by Wet Wet Wet. Doubt any team in the world could beat that....
Oh and Gary

Nissan actually means "perrenial also rans" in japanese believe it or not, bizarre, yet true
i remember waterford being sponsored by "waterford regional airport" when we played them in the LC a few years ago.

With car theft and break ins so prevalent in the slum that is Inchicore, they felt they had to give something back to the community as a show of their appreciation.
Have Boot Disk, will travel
Waterford's current one is ridiculous too. Any sponsor that doen't cater to the greater public is bad...Originally posted by b_mcsweeney

Well Bosch & Lomb (spelling?) are a major employer in Waterford, and have strong links to the community there. They cater to the public of Waterford, and obviously feel its worthwhile.
There is a difference between having an "embarrassing" sponsor in the "funny/peculiar" name sense, and having a very localised sponsor.
Obviously a bigger company can give bigger sponsorship, but anyone prepared to put money into an EL team should be welcomed.
Everton were sponsored a few years back by Danka. Nothing to embarrassing about that, until one of my Liverpool-daft mates started changing the D to a W on every everton pic he saw - Big Dunc used to get it the worst!
UCD - a student team - used to be sponsored by Kaliber - a non-alcoholic beer!
What about Oxford United, who were sponsored by Wang.
Celtic when they played Lyon away, couldn't wear their sponsor's name because they were sponsored by an alcohol company which is outlawed in France.
I thought their shirt was a lot more attractive without the sponsor's name emblazoned across the front. I think sponsors names on the front of shirts look ugly.

Your right of course but their association with Waterford is a donation more than anything else. In terms of amrketing a league it'd look a lot better if we had Guinness et al sponsoring all clubs. The like sof Dundalk cabs ARE embarressing no matter how much money they pump inOriginally posted by patsh
