Rovers not allowed play in Tallaght this weekend

The FAI today, Thursday, 16 July, expressed its disappointment at the unavailability of the Tallaght Stadium for Saturday evenings League of Ireland match between Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers.

The FAI grants permission for all friendly fixtures on the clear understanding that there would be no effect on the playing of scheduled League of Ireland fixtures, all parties including South Dublin County Council were aware of that.

South Dublin County Council have for health and safety reasons refused Shamrock Rovers the use of the stadium. After several meetings between the parties involved, the FAI offered full assurances to provide all required personnel to address these concerns to allow this game to proceed as scheduled however South Dublin County Council has insisted that the stadium will remain closed.

Speaking today, Fran Gavin, League of Ireland Director said, “We are disappointed that this game will not go ahead in Tallaght. Last Thursday, (July 9th) the FAI received official notification of the council’s decision to close the venue and having tried to find a solution, including playing the game on Friday night, South Dublin County Council have decided that the game will not go ahead at the Tallaght Stadium. Shamrock Rovers have also expressed their disappointment at South Dublin County Councils decision. As a result, the game has now been rescheduled for Saturday evening at Tolka Park at 7pm.”

That's bizarre! I guess Platinum One are paying SDCC enough to make it worth their while peeing off Rovers and the FAI so that Madrid have a perfect pitch to play on.

Seriously, do you not think there were grounds for reversing the fixture, considering they were willing to jeopardise the staging of a scheduled league game to fulfil a friendly?

I suppose that's what happens when you don't have your own stadium and you're relying on your landlords for permission.

the best run club in the country can't even get permission to play there games at "home"

although on a more serious note once again the league plays second fiddle to foreign football
it's a sad day when even the CC would rather have a glamour friendly then an important league fixture

im just hopin that Rovers wont be so smug coming on and asking what we think about their ground when this quite clearly proves who calls the shots at the end of the day - SDCC.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

BTW if the FAI had any balls they'd cancel the permission for the Madrid game.
And if Rovers had any balls, they'd pull out of the friendly

To me, that's it. If the FAI did provide assurances (a big if?), then it is the SDCC taking a new interest in the pitch that previously they couldn't care less about. I mean if it was safe for Newcastle with a bigger attendance, use of temporary seats and no doubt all H&S worries will be miraculously cleared for Monday...

Probably would get as big or bigger amount of travelling Hoops on a Saturday to Sligo than Tolka.

Tell all the Bohs you know
that we've gone and won two-in-a-row
and it's not gonna be three
and it's not gonna be four
it's more likely to be 5-1.

My god, that seems like a view of someone who is angry with the world...wonder would you feel the same if it was your club involved

And before its gets into a debate about who owns what grounds i just feel that there is an awful lot of Jealousy towards rovers from other clubs.

And for the record Sligo were asked to stage the game but couldnt due to work been carried out on it i believe.
Why are people who "need no introduction" always introduced?

Nice windfall for Shels. Will Rovers have to pay the rent or are Tallaght County Council going to cover it I wonder.

You would assume Rover's would have to pay the rent, But they would not have to pay SDCC rent for this weekend as they are not playing there, so they wont be out of pocket....

And it would have been, had Sligo's ground been available. But don't let facts get in the way of one of your anti-Rover's rants, it never has before.
