Great idea we have discussed doing this for our fanzine in the new season (if there is one...). Make use of the AA site to help you - it has a great route-planner.
Hi lads,
I run the Athlone site, www.athlonetownfc.com which has a section for fans travelling to away games. Basic information like finding the ground, places to eat sleep and drink, and other local knowledge things.
If anyone has any information they would like to contribute, could you please reply here or email info@athlonetownfc.com. Have a look on the site, Harps is probably the fullest page, to see what others have sent in.
Cheers,
Ray

Yeah I have the AA Route Planner included this time round. I'll let them use that themselves as it will obviously depend on where they are travelling from. The directions on the page are basically going to be from the main entry points into the particular town/city to the ground.
Celebrating 130 Years of Athlone Town Football Club - Pride of the Midlands Since 1887
Ground: Pike Rovers Sports Ground, Crossagalla, Limerick City. Tel 061 410096.
Access:Coming from Athlone, take left exit at Parkway Roundabout (signposted Cork, Tralee), continue straight through the Tipperary Rd roundabout. On meeting the Kilmallock Rd roundabout, take left exit, drive 100 yards up the hill, and turn right at St Endas. Travel 50 yards, take 1st left turn. Pitch 400 yards up on right, opposite graveyard.
Pubs: No pubs in area, but the clubhouse is quite good.If you venture in to the city centre, there are lots of pubs, depending on your taste. Good sports pubs would include: Patsy Nicholas on Gerald Griffin St, Patsy Flannerys, Wickham St and The Stil House on Thomas St. For the more trendy lad there is Smyths and Nancy Blakes or the Old Quarter all on Denmark St. Niteclubs are The Icon, Teds or The Market.
Accommodation:The Royal George and The Glentworth are decent City Centre hotels, while just outside the city you could use The Kilmurry Lodge or The Woodfield House. There is a lot of B&B accommodation available, particularly on the Ennis Road or in Castletroy.
Food: Good restaurants include Mustang Sallys, Copper & Spice, Texas Steakhouse and The Jasmine Palace. You have a lot of Cafes which do Fish and Chip meals like Enzos, The Golden Grill, The O'Connell Grill, and you have a veritable 'lorryload' of takeaways. Steer clear of Supermacs after 2 in the morning...can be a little dodgy!!
Good luck with your guide![]()
