I think they only had the bare 11, M Reidy missed a sitter to win it at the end, and that O'Dea, Lyons and Brosnan played well

Photos from Abbeyfeale v Askeaton this morning.

Askeaton were 2-0 up and playing well when I left. Willie Griffin & Ray Foley scored.

Willie Griffin was taken to hospital with a suspected broken ankle that resulted from a fairly innocuous looking challenge soon after he scored.

    Abbeyfeale 1-4 Askeaton

Should have been 8-0 to Askeaton bar some bad finishing and a poor goal conceded . Abbeyfeale had more interest in kicking players than playing football.

    Rovers 1-2 Rathkeale

Rovers deserved a point, They were up 1-0 but gave away a brutal penalty at the start of the second half. Rathkeale scored the winner with seven minutes to go. Rovers could have equalized with a minute left after a deflected shot went narrowly wide. Rathkeale looked very average.

Regarding the GAA issue, I agree.....For a lot of guys in West Limerick, GAA comes first, especially at this time of year with the latter stages of all the championships currently underway....everything is knockout so its taking priority...lads are looking at soccer and seeing it in a league format and maybe thinking its not so important right now! I dunno if the desmond league and the county board could meet and lets say start the soccer a month later so most of the gaa is out of the way and let it run into june when the gaa championships are only beginning....just a thought!? but then that would be common sense and i dunno how much of that exists in either organisation!?

He also said that all the footballers are playing no more soccer with Broadford until after the football and that they are playing Ballincollig in a Senior football challenge on Sunday morning at 11 so the boys wouldnt be able to play against Newcastle. Its scandalous the way they can take three points off Abbey and now look like they will give Newcastle a soft victory
Was at the Ncw v Broadford game and Broadford had all there footballers playing. Gary Egan, Mikey Clancy, Conway, Michael Reidy & Bob Pierce. Poor game Eagan hit the post with a header in the first half but that was really all that happened. Broadford will be hard to beat this season.

Is it true that Abbey are missing 5 of there starting 11 with Fr Casey's still involved with the football.

Good pictures. Griffin will be a loss so if that happened him. Are Askeaton a good side?

Didnt see the NCW and Broadford game, I heard they were only missing the 3 Lynchs and Brosnan alright though and that they had their footballers, As sky blue said it was meant to be a bad game between two average teams. I heard the Broadford line got a bit heated alright at one stage, What happened?

Don't know about that probably a bit harsh the peno but have seen them given before. Regards the average part rathkeale bombarded the rovers goal for 80 mins of the game, hard to play perfect football on that thing ye call a pitch.

    Rovers 1-2 Rathkeale

    Rovers 1-2 Rathkeale

It was def a penalty alright, the defender was under no pressure and should have dealt with it better. I just thought watching it that Rathkeale struggled to break Rovers down, they definately had all of the ball and were very comfortable at the back but they never really penetrated the Rovers defence. Rovers were unlucky not to snatch a draw with the deflected effort at the end. Who played well in the Newcastle and Broadford match

I watched the Newcastle West Rovers v Rathkeale game too yesterday afternoon, over the game as a whole, I think based on the chances they created Rathkeale did deserve to win, young Mark O'Sullivan had two very good chances in the first half alone, Rovers keeper pulled off a fantastic save for the first one and a very poor header for the second one should really have been scored. Rathkeale dominated the 2nd half posession, was always going to be hard for Rovers to hold out. They could have snatched a point alright in the end with the deflected shot.
I think Rovers will definately take points off teams at home, its a hard place to go and play football.
Rathkeale still dont look to be at their best, lacking a bit in the final 3rd.

I would definately agree with you there, I dont think there will be a harder ground to go to this year, maybe Shannonside. All the other pitches are of a good standard and teams will find it hard to adjust when playing on those two pitches. Maybe I'm wrong about Rathkeale, all I'm saying is that definately for the entire second half they had all the ball but I didnt think they created much, the penalty they won was a long ball into the box that was misjudged and their winner was scrappy enough as well. Rovers could have gone 2 1 up as well when the ''exceptional'' Liam O'Connor somehow blew for offside when Peter O'Dea was after heading the ball back to Ollie Byrnes, crazy decision. In fairness to Rathkeale though they have the points on the board and you cant really ask for more I suppose

Mark O'Sullivan & Thomas Walsh (well started but was brought off in the 1st half with a gash above his eye after a clash of heads)

    Both very young.

Jesus this guy really doesn`t have a clue, he just loves the sound of his own voice.
