    Canterbury has gone into administration

UK-based rugby shirts firm Canterbury has gone into administration, with 72 workers losing their job.

Canterbury Europe sponsored a number of rugby union and rugby league teams across Europe, including Leinster, the Scottish national team, Leinster, London Wasps and Cardiff.

It also sponsored Portsmouth Football Club, Lille and Yorkshire and Hampshire cricket clubs after expanding into others sports.

Administrators KPMG said they are unable to give details of individual contracts but it is believed its typical deals are worth about £100,000 (€115,641), although some sponsorships exceed this.

A KPMG statement read: "All sponsorship contracts in Canterbury Europe Limited have been terminated as a result of the administration, and the affected clubs will rank as unsecured creditors in relation to any amounts they were owed for the remainder of the contract."

The firm - the European trading arm of the Canterbury Group - employs 86 people, 72 of whom have now been made redundant.

The rest of the Canterbury Group, such as the Canterbury brand founded in New Zealand, is not affected by the administration and continues to trade as usual, although the group is believed to be looking for a buyer or investor.

Leinster have only just launched the new (in the first impression awful) kit. Ireland had already changed to Puma.

Interesting to see what Leinster will do. I see Scotland have delayed the launch of their new Kit.

A shame really, I thought they made some very innovative football shirts and a good alternative to Adidas/Nike/Umbro etc.
