In this sort of topics it's time to brag about my favourites Placebo![]()
For three albums long they had the concept of a last song, then 10 minutes of silence, then followed by a "hidden track". Very clever as it leaves you with temptation and excitement for another 10 minutes while the CD should be over really, and two songs on one-track-of-22-minutes scares of mp3 rippers and copyers![]()
My favourite song of all time, "Burger queen" is the closing track of Without You I'm Nothing, the regular closing one that is. Brilliant song, very melancholic and sad, then 10 minutes of silence, and then the hidden track "Evil dildo" which is basically a stalker's message from Brian Molko's answering machine that they put music on... Brilliant![]()
My other favourite band Echo & The Bunnymen had the magical epic "Ocean rain" as last song on the Ocean Rain album, they still have "Ocean Rain" as final encore at concerts nowadays.
Then at Evergreen album they had "Forgiven" as last track, a very nice ballad...
Other nice "last songs":
Heather Nova - Just been born / South
Marilyn Manson - Coma White (+ hidden track) / Mechanical Animals
Marilyn Manson - man that you fear (+ hidden track) / Antichrist Superstar
U2 - All I want is you / Best Of 1980-90
Dido - Take my hand / No Angel
By the way, what do you lads think of "saving the best for last" ? Is it a good idea to close the album with a cracker song, or -what some artists do- keep a very good song for the last spot but one, then to close the album with a sort of "outro" song ?
Street Spirit (Fade Out) - Radiohead / The Bends
The Bronze Medal - Idlewild / 100 broken windows
"The Derry fans were fantastic in both matches. They sang their hearts out all the time and created an even better atmosphere than the Cup Final. They were brilliant. - David Graham, Gretna striker
Nirvana 'All Apologies' - In Utero
Primal Scream 'Shoot Speed Kill Light' - Xtrmntr
Doves 'Caught by the River' - Last Broadcast
Nine Inch Nails 'Hurt' - Downward Spiral
QOTSA 'Long Slow Goodbye' - Lullabies to Paralyze
'Fascists dress in black and go round telling people what to do, where as priests.....'
I agree with a lot of the above - no point repeating them. Others i like are:
Just cos they're recent probably...
Mylo - Emotion 98.6/Detroy Rock & Roll
The Chemical Brothers - Surface to Air/Push The Button (agree on the others also)
Just comes to mind...
The Verve - Come On/Urban Hymns
"I don’t want to tempt fate, but Thierry Henry is not having one of his best nights." - RTE co-commentator Jim Beglin, minutes before TH struck the stunning winner.
a few more...
Oasis 'Champagne Supernova' - Morning Glory
Portishead 'Glory Box' - Dummy
System of a Down 'Aerials' - Toxicity
New Order 'Run Wild' - Get Ready
Blur 'No Distance Left to Run' - 13 (although a dodgy album, great closer)
REM 'Electrolite' - New Adventure in Hi-Fi
or 'Find the River' off Automatic for the People
'Fascists dress in black and go round telling people what to do, where as priests.....'
and a few more off top of me head..
'Fall Fall Fall' - Razorlight, Up All Night
'Mountain People' - Super Furries, Radiator
'Slow Life' - Super Furries, Phantom Power
'Fascists dress in black and go round telling people what to do, where as priests.....'
