Yer an awful shower. There was nothing wrong with the pitch in Athlone. Cronin got the game called off saying it wasn't playable and literally forced the ref into calling it off. Apparently Longford had a few regulars unavailable. Probably knew Longford would be hammered and so looked for it to be cancelled.

It will be interesting to see how many of our former players will come crawling back with their tails between their legs when ye get relegated to the 'A' Championship. Whether we take them back or not is another question!!!!

Its a sight how big headed ye get after spending a couple of seasons in the big league. But just remember we spent a lot more years in the top flight along with also winning it twice than ye ever did!!!! And at least we'll be in the 1st Division next season!!!!Best of luck with reserve teams next year lads!!!!!!!!
well accordin to a reliable source in the club themselves gareth cronin wanted the game played.. I heard that rumour coming from athlone through a collegue of yours but I have being reassured that was never the case just an overfussy referree..

Ah well, at least the game is rescheduled ... and it gives it a bit more
significance. I hope his ploy also backfires and Mervue give ye a hiding on Sat.
Having said all that though it was funny to see that he hadnt bothered to
contact some players and bolted before they had arrived (for fear the game
might go ahead!). The players thought we were taking the p!ss when we told
them the game was off.
