Joe Finnegan on Shannonside Northern Sound radio has responded to a text from a LOI fan about Irish fans going to England instead of supporting the LOI by saying that you need to bring a pillow to a league of Ireland game and then made a snoring noise.

I'm completely ignorant in the ways of local radio but rather than stirring up a hate campaign why don't you offer him tickets to come and see a Mons game? Surely it would be a better idea to get local media on your side?

Shannonside are usually only interested in Longford Town and Roscommon GAA.
Heard him on about Longford only being good for hoofing the ball before.

Now while this is largely true

its a disgrace that a local media outlet spend their time being
critical of local clubs etc. Surely they should be trying to promote the community they serve!

Ash, as long as they bash Longford then I see no reason for complaint....move along kids, nothing more to see here.....

Seriously though, surely a bit of media courting is called for, free tickets, promotional giveaways on the radio, in the papers, invite them all a long for a bit of a jolly knees up at the last game of the season. Whatever it takes, to win hearts & minds you need to be prominent in the local media and be shown in as positive a light as is possible, without them on board it's everest.

It's a Midlands radio station, you'd think the likes of Finnegan would be getting behind LOI clubs. I wasnt living in Longford then so can't recall if he congratulated us on Cup success, but I'd say he'd be first on the bandwagon if we won anything again.

He's a tool that lad. I think he's from Roscommon which would explain a few things. Shannonside as a whole isn't too bad for LTFC though. Their main sports presenter has been on the committee of LTFC for many years and they generally plug anything we ask them to and do interviews etc.

Can't complain about their sports coverage whenever I've heard it, just muppets like Finnegan really get on my wick. Do they still do the death notices? Miss them in the mornings...

I think so yeah. I heard it this morning and they were reading out notices of pups for sale and the like. Local radio at its finest.

Shannonside Northern Sound have been fantastic to Monaghan United and local soccer in general. It just seems that Joe is not a fan of LOI and there is no convincing him. I spent time on his show a few weeks ago trying to defend it but he only wanted to talk about Manure and Gaa.

All this week Northern Sound have pulled out the stops for us. Sports news and even current affairs have done a daily slot on the FAI Festival of Football and have been so helpful even did an OB at the funday in the diamond in Monaghan today, so its not a major problem, just could do without Joe's commenting negatively about the LOI.
