Boards have loads of subscribers so it's a new concept.
Extratime.ie
Yo te quiero, mi querida. Sin tus besos, yo soy nada.
Abri o portão de ouro, da maquina do tempo.
Mi mamá me hizo guapo, listo y antimadridista.
Jeepers, I enjoy the site and all and would be willing to chip in a bit, but €50 a year does seem a little steep.
#NeverStopNotGivingUp
It's actually been set up all along, I just never set up the extras and advertised it. We actually have two subscribers already, the first of which goes back to 2005! Good old sirhamish, a pity he got his knickers in a knot. I've been meaning to do it for a while, in particular since the advertising market took a nosedive. The revenue from ads is about a quarter of what it used to be now, and I'm genuinely finding it very tight.
The alternative is to pick up on a few of the commission-based advertising campaigns I get offered now and then, but most of them are gambling sites and I'm not all that comfortable with the idea. I'd prefer to see how this goes first, hopefully a few people will be interested in the extras.
I did a god bit of research into it, including on Boards who've done it for years, it's a pretty standard figure for a good site. (I reckon Foot.ie qualifies!) I accept that some might find it too much, we'll just have to see how it goes.

dahamsta, since that membership thing has gone in I'm not able to click on the 'Control' botton in the top right. All the others are working fine.
Fixed sligo23, thanks!

I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Subscription ('supporter status') to Our Wee Country costs £5 per year. I believe non-subscribers can't start threads nor read the away travel section.
EU50 per year looks a lot...
Like I said. Like Dodge said.
I understand some sites are cheaper. Others are more expensive, such is life.
Personally I think it's a pretty fair amount for a lot of extras, but if not very many people decide not to go for it, obviously I'll need to drop the price or just drop the subs altogether and look at other ways of paying for the sites costs. Personally I'd prefer to drop the ads altogether, but right now that's just not an option. We'll see how we go.
Which reminds me: There's now a private Supporters forum, and from next week Supporters will get a forum style with no ads.

Just a thought but i think people may be more inclined to sign up if they where threated with just a tiny little bit of respect on here ive noticed in the last few weeks a few "shut up" or "shut your mouth" posts from site bosses. Add in when people have problems the "lump it or leave it" response they get.
Just my opinion on the matter but people dont like to pay 50 euro to get threated like crap. Might be worth considering seeing as the site is trying to get paying customers.
If moderators are acting in appropriately it should be reported, that's why the Report This Post facility is there, why we have a Support forum, and why I'm always contactable as a last resort. However I'd guess 99% of people are never on the receiving end of that type of message, because they behave responsibly. It's the 1% of idiots that usually get it, and I'd have my doubts they'd support the site anyway, because they're usually selfish mé féiners that want everything for nothing. I guess a small percentage of people might subscribe in the mistaken belief that it'll allow them to break the rules, but that'd be their loss.
Probably a cynical view, but that's what being an admin gets you.

He may not feel like saying this outright, but I suspect he meant you. You can be pretty curt if you think someone's being an idiot. The idiot is usually aggrieved, and occasionally wasn't being an idiot. Most posters shrug and get on with it, but some people seem to hold disproportionate grudges over minor slights on the internet.
You can't spell failure without FAI
House is my hero!
I'd accept that I'm curt; it's unlikely to change. Sometimes need to be put in their place, and although their bitching about me elsewhere makes me cry and cry and cry, it's just my nature. I've no objection to being told I'm an idiot in return when I'm wrong, and I'm pretty sure I've only ever been childish in my response (unfair bannings, pranks) a couple of times. I guess people generally just put me in the "if he's been nasty to me once, he'll be nasty to me again, even if I'm right". But that's a moronic response, so that's ok.
Heh, no-one'll become a supporter if this keeps going!
(Someone did actually, fair dues. Thanks!)
