The exciting climax to the Ayrshire derby peaked when Killie keeper Damien Rascle desperately tried to punch away a corner in the dying minutes, only to see his clearance fall to Alex Williams. And without hesitation, the striker thumped a first-time volley through a ruck of players, eventually nestling in the net and forcing a replay.
But that was only half the story.
Caught up in the excitement, Williams removed his shirt on an arctic day in Scotland, swinging it above his head like an old-fashioned football fan’s rattle, while running around like a headless chicken. But before Williams could be caught by his fellow teammates, the cheeky chap, clearly overcome with emotion, ran into the path of referee Steve Conroy and opted to involve the official in his moment of joy.
Bare-chested, Williams thrusted himself on the man in black, throwing his arms around the ref before his teammates managed to get in on the act. Startled, the ref booked the pumped Williams, who reacted by ruffling the ref’s hair and planting a sloppy kiss on his cheek.
Brilliant!
