Charlie's just making a joke based on the fact that Maher also happens to be a Moroccan surname.

Isn't it Arabic generally, with doubtless other geographic connections, unsure why Morocco specifically...

It's okay AB, you were not alone, the Moroccan/Maher connection passed me by completely as well. I had thought Charlie was just being cheeky instead of smart.

Irwin3 recently referred to Adam Maher, a player from Morocco, in response to a silly line of reasoning by TOWK in relation to certain Irish surnames that also happen to have identical renderings in other cultures:

Or this only applies to English names that couldn't possibly have an unrelated Irish origin.
Charlie was cracking a joke in reference to that and mocking the idea that Maher mightn't or couldn't be an Irish surname by suggesting in jest that Niall Maher must be a member of Manchester's (imaginary?) Moroccan community, obviously whilst well aware of the fact that Niall Maher's surname is almost certainly derived from the Gaelic surname of Ó Meachair. Nothing too complicated.

You guys must have missed the memo; we're all out to get TOWK now, don't you know?

There was an interview with him in the Sun last week but it's not online unless you have a subscription. He was born in Dublin but brought up in London, and seemingly open to playing for us if called up. U23s for Nigeria wouldn't disqualify him for us as he's eligible by birth.

Meanwhile, United striker Ola Adeyemo has been invited to the Nigeria Under-23 team training camp.

The 19-year-old signed for the Tannadice club on a two-year contract as a free agent in summer of 2014 following a six-month spell at English League One club Leyton Orient.

Adeyemo was born in London but moved to Ireland, aged two, where he was involved in the national association's youth development programme before joining St Patrick's Athletic and then UCD Dublin.

His agent, Ladi Salami, told BBC Scotland: "Ola can play for Nigeria, England or Ireland. He is flying out tomorrow and this will be a great experience for him.

"There is a tournament coming up and they have told him he will be involved in that too.

"It will be good for his development at Dundee United."

Sorry, you're right, I had that the wrong way around - he was born in London and moved to Dublin. Still assume he'd be eligible as he has had Irish nationality before lining out for Nigeria underage.

    Lamar Neagle

    http://mynorthwest.com/418/440771/Se...s-Lamar-Neagle

Seattle Sounders player (27) is eligible to play for Ireland, although it seems the main reason behind his acquiring an Irish passport was to create a clear pathway in order to play in Europe.

    https://www.facebook.com/IrishClubSeattle

His Irish roots lie in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.

Renamed the thread, pretty sure each of O'Hara, Noble or Nolan are not going to declare at this stage. Feel free to discuss any potentially eligible player here.

nothing about them, just it's been almost six years since the thread was started, and we're no closer to them declaring than we were when it was started.

I thought O'Hara's eligibility stemmed from at least one Irish grandparent, but a 2002 article from the Belfast Telegraph stated his father is from Magherafelt: http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-10663459.html

A midfield dynamo, Jamie's father is from the Co. Derry town and his English mother who was over for the tournament, let it be known that he has not declared his affiliation yet, but hinted at a strong leaning towards Northern Ireland.

Just having a look around the net for more on Neagle. Quite a few videos in various places of him in action. Here's a goal he scored a few months ago:

    Not a bad finish.

I see his Twitter profile mentions something about "the Way of the Irish". I wonder would he be interested in representing us. He's never played at any level for the US, however, as far as I can make out. Would be be good enough for our consideration then? Maybe not if he's not been on the receiving end of any serious attention from the happy-capping US set-up. I see he has played briefly in Europe before though; he once played in the Finnish league with IFK Mariehamn.

This profile from his university days states that he is the "son of John Brown and Bridget Neagle, and Frankie and Maria Lawson". What does that mean exactly? His birth parents are in relationships with other partners now, I can only assume.

Are the Keane brothers still eligible to play for Ireland. I know they switched loyalties to England but it looks like they are not going to feature for them, are they still able to switch back.

One of them definitely isn't able to switch.
