    Local Election Results

Green Party have lost all 8 of their seats in the Dublin local authorities. Only 2 seats so far from high of 18 in 2004. I winder how they will react to that.

FG have majority of seats in Cavan which might be the only local authority under the control of one party.

Just shows how selfish the Bertie machine is as he never had a chance in the bye elections & couldn't even build for the future. His running mate in Cabra/Glasnevin got double his vote. FF actually got 34% but only 1 of 5 seats.

Took the little one swimming yesterday morning, and it turned out the wicklow count was on the leisure centre, so I went in for a nose. Just in time to see Mrs Dick Roche get eliminated. The look on his face would warm the cockles of your heart.

It was Fitzpatrick, who St Lukes screwed over before the last general election, and did the same last week with the intention of scuppering her for the locals. In the last few years Aherns mob have really been after her with dirty tricks in elections, so it really was a kick in the teeth for them.

I'm glad to see the RSF guy in Limerick North got his answer as well despite driving around the place hollering into a tannoy all day Thursday and Friday. A whopping 122 dumb bunnies in need of a slap gave him a vote.

I don't think it was just in Limerick where we had an upsurge in dingbat Independent candidates but I'm glad to see they pretty much all got their answer anyway. One langball who's previous flirtation with public life came in the form of claiming ownership of a local authority field on the basis his horse has been grazing on it for years (should he not be billed for that by Limerick BC?) got less acknowledgment of his existence by way of votes than I suspect he would on his birthday by way of birthday cards.

Similarily the clown who had Willy O'Dea up for assault (and ended up caught on camera himself harrassing O'Dea with menace) is probably on first name (and same surname) terms with the mini-van load of people who bothered voting for him.

One independent in Limerick I was pleasantly surprised for was Kathleen Leddin ...who with little profile, tiny colour photocopy posters and a whole load of footwork retained her seat. Didn't vote for her myself but kudos all the same.

    Minority Parties

What banner are RSF candidates running under? A good party name can go a long way.

I think the best rebranding of politics in Ireland since Democratic Left is the People Before Profit party. It is a much better brand than Socialist Workers Party or Workers Action Group & their posters look almost like the Green Party & doesn't suggest the far left.

The far right haven't discovered marketing yet. Calling yourself Immigrant Platform is never going to widen their voting base.

    Immigration Control Platform isn't it?

They need to take a leaf from the BNP -wear suits and adopt Simon & Garfunkels Homeward Bound as a theme tune.

That probably makes my point. Thats an even worse name/brand.

If someone like Ganley (I don't like him but he media savy) latched onto the far right he could attract significant votes.

Is there a difference between SWP & WP? There seem to be a lot of similarly named parties on the left. I used wikipedia for info.

They are indeed different parties. It was the SWP people who ran under the People Before Profit banner. The WP evolved from 'Official' Sinn Féin. I know they had a candidate in Dundalk.

Absolutely. Sounds like a convoluted rat trap. ...the Immigration control platform is hands free, can be cleaned with conventional detergent and is usable indoors or out. For best results set your ICPs five meters apart along walls, ditches and anywhere else you've observed immigrant activity.

Damn right he is -which is why he reached for the fire extinguisher straight away last week when one of his numpty underlings had a pop at the Simon Wiesenthal Centre. You don't take on the Wiesenthal center ...those folks are like RC nuns ...they have powers.

And to complete the circle, Democratic Left was formed after a split in the Workers Party.

He certainly tried, especially if you look across Europe, so he obviously wasn't that savvy about it.

Saw yesterday Independents saying they will continue to support the government as long as (they) their constituents get 'looked after'.

They'd be Jackie Healy Rae and Michael Lowry (as well as the two ex-PDs if you consider them 'independents').

Joe Behan, Finian McGrath and Maureen O'Sullivan voted against the government.
