    Glen Johnson

Glen Johnson, Chelsea's right full is way out of his depth. He is only a youngster but he is costing Chelsea points.

Frandsen went past him like he wasn't there to get Bolton's winner a couple of games back.

Yesterday he was caught out for the second and the third goal. For the second one he was five or six yards out of position and by the time he caught up with the ball it was too late as the cross went in and Holland buried it.

For the third one he was again way out of position and Di Canio was in oceans of space on the right side. Terry was forced out to mark him while Johnson tracked back marked nobody and Charlton scored.

Liability as far as I can see.

I have to agree ithink Johnson is a little out of his depth in Chelsea's array of superstars.

I was suprised when they paid 7 million or whatever it was for him, crazy money imo.

What about Gallas right back and Terry and Desailly in the centre of defence?

    Glen Johnson is terrible

He's like most full backs these days, good attacking but weak when being run at or positionally..Ashley Cole,J Lloyd Samuel and dare I say,John O'Shea ,are similar.
The likes of Denis Irwin is rarely seen any more.Defending should be the priority of a defender. But I think Wayne Bridge seems to be solid at the back.

Full backs these days is almost as important goin forward as defending and the lad looks like he will be a class act in that respect, I agree though he is suspect to say the least defensively but his contribution in the Newcaste game was huge and caused plenty of problems. For me Melchiot is a better bet in the short term. For the record Johnsen cost £4.5 with a further £1.5 if he get some england caps and money isnt really an issue at Chelsea anyway.

Fair play to Ranieri, had the insight to drop Johnson and Desailly on Sunday.

Just a note to Beavis that its a bit harsh on OShea coz he is really a centre back playing as a full back.

And I tink he calls it 'squad rotation'.

Ferguson never plays him in the centre so I wouldn't really consider him a centre half.He doesn't have the aggression for it.

Just saying that I'm not too confident when I see a quick winger go at him.He is still young and hopefully will prove me wrong in time.

Then play him on the wing!I don't think you can say that having the abilty to go forward is as important as defending,Glen Johnson's recent errors have been a testiment to that.Cost them points against Bolton and contributed to their downfall at Charlton. He was also crucified by Luis Boa Morte against Fulham.

Defending has to be the main duty of the full back even if they are great going forward.Although if they have a good winger in front of them that can get back every now and then to support the full back then it can be a great help.

Look at your man selgado at real madrid, one of the best right backs in europe. He says since David Beckham has started playing at right wing for madrid it has helped his game hugely because Beckham gets back to support him so much, which enables him to get forward more without fear of neglecting his defensive duties.

    He's my cousin!LOL!

He'll learn, and he is eager to learn. He's had it rough until now in his life(no dad, etc) and he's hit the big time so quickly.
He's coping well though, and as long as he keeps it up, he can only get better. He has his days, and is not consistent though. This will, hopefully, come with age.
I say, Good Luck to him.

Too many full backs these days play like wing-backs. I'd say John O'Shea's a prime example when he plays there for the national side; Ian Harte does the same thing.

At least Ashley Cole can defend as well.
