eleven-a-side.com Player of the Year awards 2003

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you think there was one player who stood head and shoulders above all others in their division last year?

Were you dissatisfied with the lack of recognition afforded to your team's centre half for a series of sturdy displays last season?

Both Brian McGovern of Longford Town and Shelbourne's Jason Byrne had excellent seasons in 2003. But will either make your Premier Division top three?

Now's your chance to see that player get the recognition he deserves. We at eleven-a-side.com, Ireland's soccer website, want you to tell us who you think were the best players in each division in 2003.

The process is simple - select the three top players in the Premier Division, number them 1, 2 and 3 and email your selection to playerof2003@eircom.net, placing the words Premier Division in the subject line.

Or, if the First Division is your speciality, nominate the three players who took your eye in that sector last season, place them in the order of your preference and fire them off to the same address, this time putting the words First Division in the subject line.

If you wish, you can vote for three players in both divisions but be warned that you can only vote once for the Premier Division and once for the First - we will not accept multiple entries from the same email address.

Eamon Zayed was the goal king for Bray Wanderers in 2003, but will he make your shortlist for the First Division award?

You can rest easy, because we will not share your details with any third parties, but don't delay - we aim to compile your votes into a short-list of six for each division before the end of January, then put that to several Irish soccer experts, including players, managers and journalists, who will come up with the inaugural winners of the eleven-a-side.com Player of the Year awards for 2003, which will be announced well in advance of the big kick-off of the 2004 season in March.

So just pick three players in each division, number them 1, 2 and 3, and send them to playerof2003@eircom.net with either Premier Division or First Division in the subject line. It really couldn't be simpler, and you'll know that you're helping contribute to new and exciting awards.

Don't be afraid to spread the word, so that our inaugural Player of the Year awards can find a worthy winner for each division.

My own vote:

1. Steven O'Flynn (not because I think he was the best player last season ut because he has the best chance of winning overall)
2. Kevin McHugh
3. Brendan Rea (for his remarkable achievement of playing football while weighing 40 stone)
2.
