    Paddy Mulligan!

I was listening to the radio on the way home from the match last night and
after 11pm or so NewsTalk repeat the morning shows so I got to hear the
morning interview with Paddy Mulligan. He declared (not exact words but
general jist!) that any team that had Harry Kewell in it could be beaten handy
enough and that Darron Gibson was worth his place in the team and a real
    International prospect!

    Reality 2-0 Paddy Mulligan

Just on the topic. I do see Paddy going to work in the morning most days with some sort of media tag around his neck. Any idea who he works for?

I remember Paddy playing for Rovers and Chelsea and also Ireland. I suppose a good footballer doesn't necessarily make a good pundit. He's entitled to his opinion though based upon his experience playing at the top level.

Certainly some mediocre footballers don't make good pundits and you know who I mean!

Totally agree. I enjoy him. He is narky and gives an honest opinion even if he is not 100% correct. I too would have thought a team built around HK could be beaten. Least he is a lot better than the banal cliche types who go out on a limb to predict a Liverpool/Man U/Arsenal win or predict Barca for the CL.
Asked about Newcastle on the radio last season his verdict was 'Rubbish, rubbish'

Surprising how many people only remember him playing for Rovers and Chelsea.

When he left Chelsea he went to Crystal Palace where he played nearly as many games for them as Chelsea. He then went to West Brom and played almost as many games for them as he did for Chelsea and Palace combined.

Of his 50 caps, he got 29 while playing for Palace and West Brom and only 11 while playing for Chelsea.

Duly scolded. Now that you've refreshed my memory I also remember him for Palace with the stripe down the front. Was he at WBA during the Giles era? I can't really remember that one.

Giles had just taken over as player manager when Mulligan joined him in September 1975. West Brom won promotion to the First Division in the first full season the pair were there. Giles left West Brom at the end of the following season and joined Shamrock Rovers as manager. Mulligan left West Brom in 1979 and rejoinded Giles at Shamrock Rovers.

Have a picture somewhere of Mulligan in that white place jersey with that stripe, must look it up.

He is 100% spot on about Darron Gibson. The guy has it all and will be a massive player for us, he just really has to work on imposing himself in the game more so. Personally i think he would be perfect beside S.Reid or Andrews, but i wouldn't have him beside Whealan. He can be a little anonymous at times but he is still learning, he had a big influence when he came on against Italy in Bari

He's not 16 or 17, he's nearly 22 now so i think he would be over that initial learning curve..... i think i've seen enough of him to think he won't make it at the VERY top level, he gives the ball away far too cheaply and i personally think he's a poor passer of the ball..also decided to go ball watching for the first Aussie goal instead of continuing to track Cahill after Tim laid it off outside the box
There's the right way, the wrong way.... and the Max Power way!! :-D

Mulligan isn't the worst pundit. Calls it as he sees it and has an interest in the LOI. Very interested in GAA as well and supports Galway for some reason.

Well personally i hold Fergusons opinions on the guy above yours. I have seen plenty of him for the united reserves and i beleive he will make. Probably not at United but he is Premiership quality. We really need him to get consistent Premiership football to really appreciate him. I don't think the OP should really be giving out about a pundit saying Gibson was worth his place in the team
