    Senior Squad U.S. Training Camp

Is the Senior Team travelling to the US benefitting women's football in Ireland or is it killing the game here this season?

    Your thoughts please.......

I think it can only help. The better training and facilities and high quality opposition the Senior team have the more they will improve and this trip to the USA should be great for them. If the senior international team improve it should create more money and provide money to improve the leagues around the country.

I think the FAI should do something about the leagues, especially the DWSL it seems to be really badly organised, just doesnt help when teams are trying to improve, defo needs to be something done about it, any thoughts?

    Thumbs up

Other european countries, or even worldwide, do this kind of thing annually, usually during the off-season. This "boot-camp" style is important for improving our qualification chances.

Maybe the bigger problem for us, is NO National League...

The squad will get fulltime training and quality matches.

    Its a good thing.

In response to the actual question, I believe that there will be no benefit to club football from this trip. There is no doubt that it wll benefit the national side. I dont understand how taking the best players away from club football for 11 weeks is going to help the womens game at home. In fact, I dont know of any sport where players are removed from their clubs, for the whole season, in order to train for the national side.

It's a bit of a double barrelled question. It will benefit our national team but with a lot of players who could be playing here for the summer now going to be in Indiana it will have a negative effect on the domestic game while they are away.
However in the long run if Ireland were to qualify for the World Cup the publicity would be a huge bonus to the game here.
I think the positives out weigh the negatives

Im not sure how many players are being taken away from their clubs for the summer... is there any squad info, so we could put some facts to the matter??

in an earlier comment i made, i stated that this kind of a training camp/11 week programme is a common feature for other nations, they avoid the problem of taking players out of the domestic game as they have an off season.

here, we have summer leagues/wionter leagues, ouur seasons are all over the shop.

if the leagues got together, planned a season start and finish, then an off-season training camp would be welcomed by all, would have nothing but positives, and would boost all leagues when we qualify for euro finals, especially for a league that has a player involved!!

Did you ever notice that in every painting of Adam & Eve, they have belly buttons. Think about that...take as long as you want.

Did anyone go to the game last night in Turner's Cross?

Would love to hear about the game.....How did the girls play? Do you think the US Training Camp benefitted the team? Was there a big improvement in the performance since games against Iceland?

Are we on the right track?

I was at the game, ireland should have been 5 up at half time but were only one up then Kazakhstan scored a poxy goal and it looked dodgey that Ireland would get 3 points but got a deserved goal well i think they deserved it anyway. HEard Noel King on the radio a couple of days later he said he was happy with the crowd and that they backed the team even when it looked like they might drop points.
BUT the FAI were disgraceful in their organisation of this fixture. They paid for adds in the local papers and sent them the wrong date. Poeple told me at the ground that the local league were only told about the fixture that week which made it very hard for them to get the word out.
the players were great afterwards signing autographs posing for pictures and all that. I thought Katie Taylor was excellent when she came on and if some other players had their shooting boots with them it would have been a walk in the park.

thanks CR. It's always difficult to get unbiased feedback on the FAI site(as with other national sites to be fair). Did anyone stand out in the game? (Katie was only on for a while). What system did they play?(the usual 1-4-5-1 or something new?) Someone told me that Ciara Grant played up front on the left in a 1-4-3-3 a la Lionel Messi...is that true?

Are we on the right track?

I'm starting to get annoyed with this site i just wrote a big long piece about the match and pressed submit and it disappeared not the first time its happened to me either. So here goes again (shorter version) Grant started in Centre moved to right was better in centre. Back 4 were comfortable but were not under much pressure. O'Gorman got better as the game went on and in fairness chaesed a lost cause, played it to Curtin who gave it to o'sullivan who got it to Roche and we scored. Taylor was very good so was Curtin (especially crossing) and O'Sullivan. However Ireland should have been home and dry by half time. Three points is three points tho but i cant see ireland topping this group third is my prediction I hope i'm wrong. Would love to see the Irish team in Cork again
