Wouldn't that lead to horrible pitch quality and annoying rugby markings on the pitch?
I don't like the sound of it at all, personally.
Did anyone see the article in the college newspaper today about the soccer club moving to the rugby grounds?
It sounded like idle speculation. The basic idea of it was that thee rugby grounds would be redeveloped to hold both codes, with the redevelopment being paid for by building apartments where the soccer grounds are now.
An interesting line in the article quoted Macker saying that he recons that demotion will cost the soccer club 40 to 50 thousand this season.

And stay out of Bumtown, ya no talent bum.
This was mooted a few years ago as well, but the official stance is that it's a load of rubbish, as far as I know. Few reasons -
1) It's a rugby pitch
2) It would take away a bit of our independence/identity
3) It's a rugby pitch
4) Would have to spend even more money to upgrading the facilities
5) It's a rugby pitch!!
The 40k is a huge blow. Plus the alcohol advertising ban may be in force for the new season, which would scupper our deal with Budweiser.
The reason it was planned a few years ago was because there was a road due to be built through the soccer grounds, which is not now being built.
It does sound like a serious sudgestion though. The minutes of a Buildings committee meeting held last November said:
"a decision on the application for a grant [to upgrade Belfield Park] has not yet been recieved. A sudgestion has been made that it might be more advantageous to transfer the sports program at Belfield Park to Belfield Bowl."
P.S. I don't think that Pinapple's dislike of rugby will weigh heavily in the final decision.
Shocking number of spelling mistakes there. Pinapple?! Sounds like a Japanese wrestler!Originally posted by Bald Student

Me not like rugby?! What a shocking allegation!
The point was that the pitch will get cut up too quickly. A bit like Lansdowne only worse 'cos it's in a hollow and won't have as much spent on maintenance and so on.
Now a new ground near that area - and near the Sports Centre - would be a good idea, but that's probably a no-go as nobody'd get anything for Belfield Park given the place it's in.
