You're not all that innocent yourself now are you?
I think EG was right regarding Owen Coyle in that if he becomes successful within the British club game, he's unlikely to be attracted to the international football scene. As things currently stand though I'm sure the FAI are more than happy with Trapattoni and perhaps will look to extend his contract. Failing that Liam Brady is likely to take over imo.
Anyways I think the FAI should be looking to more actively promote from within and use the U21 job as a training ground for potential senior managers.
The problem I have with EG is that he appears to be so anti-ROI I find his opinion difficult to take seriously. He's obviously only here to push his own agenda and wind other posters up imo. Look up some of his statements regarding the ROI wanting to take over NI and such X-Files like paranoid nonsense and you'll get the picture. When has he ever said anything even remotely positive about the ROI football team in all his years on here?
Gather round I have no problem with. I think his posts are more objective and fair though I will respond in kind when he sticks up for EG and picks on one of my posts.

You mean, in the middle of all the sneers, the grossly uninformed comment, the persistent cynical refusal to acknowledge that Owen Coyle was not the man to deride his Irishnes on, his immature backtracking in a futile attempt to put a different colour to his jibes, the obvious bitterness of his agenda.
that in the middle of all that, EG made a patently obvious point.
Well done for spotting that.
It's his first post in this thread that I was referring to. The waffle and drivel in between, (I know its waffle and drivel when you become involved), I have chosen to ignore.
Aye, it's time for the U21 position to be reviewed and given direction and purpose
Here is what I originally posted on the topic of Coyle, and the possibility of his becoming ROI manager one day:
"Has the potential to become a great manager, but I can't see him managing ROI, tbh.
For one thing, international management is no longer the pinnacle of a manager's career - see, for example, how Mark Hughes, Walter Smith/Alec McLeish, even Lawrie Sanchez were notably successful with Wales/Scot/NI, before joining clubs which could hardly be described as huge. Therefore if Coyle can manage in the Premiership, either with Burnley or someone else, why would he want to move? David Moyes, for example, could have had the Scotland job had he wanted it, but has never shown any interest.
Speaking of which, even if Coyle did fancy a spell managing an international team as a "stepping stone", I'd imagine he and Scotland would appeal more to each other than he and ROI.
Of course, the sort of money Trapattoni is on would likely tempt him, but Coyle is hardly a big enough "name" for some Sugar Daddy to offer him a package comparable to Trap's. And let's be honest, Trap wouldn't have accepted the ROI job when he was an up-and-coming manager around Coyle's age, either"
How is any of that deliberately provocative/off-topic/disrespectful of the ROI etc? It is merely my opinion which, whether anyone agrees or not, was argued coherently and with examples to support it etc.
Yet that alone evinced a number of posts (since deleted) accusing me of being on a "wind-up" etc. Now considering it was the same few people as always react so, I should have risen above this, but seeing as those replies directly attacked both my team and me personally, I allowed myself to respond in kind - something I will try harder to avoid in future.
Nonetheless, when I go back to what I actually posted, and being as objective as anyone can, I can still only conclude that rather than my being on a "wind-up", by far the greater problem is that some people are far too easily wound-up.
Now of course I could avoid all such controversy by "retreating back to my laager" on OWC etc, and posting amongst friends "what a bunch of cnuts they all are on foot.ie etc". But I genuinely do not believe that, or anything like it.
On the contrary, I greatly enjoy this forum and so will not allow the sneers and jibes of 'the usual suspects' to drive me away from debating sensibly with those other sensible posters who, imo, comprise the great majority of this Board.
You're right EG. Sorry to have got it so wrong. There is nothing in your first post that could be construed as offensive or liable to intentionally wind people up.
Now that I think about it it was your second and third posts (since deleted) that were the wind ups.
Speaking of the same few people reacting whatever happened to Lopez?

Thank You.
It was my original post which "provoked" [sic] snide responses etc from others, said responses causing me to lower my standards* in my second and third posts etc
* - Though even then, I still don't see how eg posting without comment the current FIFA Rankings and WC2010 Qualifying Tables, in response to a post basically calling the NI team crap, qualifies as a "wind-up". Oh well.
Is this a football forum lads or marriage counselling?
