    UCD -V- Waterford United

It’s 1st versus 2nd in the First Division tonight with two sides that many expected to be 3rd and 4th at this stage of the season. With Shels and Fingal currently under performing both sides will be gunning for the 3 points here tonight. I’m going with a home win, unsurprisingly, as I have been highly impressed with the students. They have played 12 games in all competitions to date, winning 11 and losing just the once. The students have gone to both Shels and Fingal this season and have come away with maximum points. While on the other hand Waterford have hosted both Shels and Fingal and only managed in taken 1 point from the possible 6 on offer. It has to be said that WUFC are in great form at the moment. However, United haven’t come up against any decent opposition since their 1-0 home defeat to Shels - 7 weeks ago. The away side are also missing be their joint top scorer tonight. All the signs point to a home win for me.

    UCD @ 2.25 (Boyles and Ladbrokes) - 2pts.

It's a betting minefield this weekend in the Premier Division. You've got
the Dublin and Louth Derbies, the Cork -V- Derry love in, the flopping Pats
and Sligo, and the Jekyll and Hyde performers of Galway and Bray. These 5
games could go either way. All of these games will be tight in what is, without
doubt, the toughest series of games from a betting perspective. With that
I'm just going to have a small fun bet on all games ending in a draw - trebles
and an accum with Bet 365.

Cork City v Derry City Draw 9/4

Drogheda United v Dundalk Draw 11/5

Galway United v Bray Wanderers Draw 12/5

St Patricks v Sligo Rovers Draw 21/10

Shamrock Rovers v Bohemians Draw 9/4

Good luck with the acca RR.

Will you be having a bet on Kildare v Shelbourne tomorrow?

Yeah have us to win both halves @ 11/8 - missed the 13/8 that was on offer earlier in the week. I'm not overly confident though.

I've already run through the reasons for this bet. 9-5 on us on the DNB market with Hills is just too good to pass up. Incidentally, this price has lowered to 5-4 now, so there's obviously a bit of money going onto this one. However, it is very speculative, which is why I'm only putting a fifth of this week's stake on it.

    Sporting Fingal -v- Athlone Town

Fingal have stumbled just a little bit recently, and can consider themselves unlucky to come away from the Mervue game with only a point. They are 6 points behind UCD now, and they know they'll need to put another winning run together. Athlone are no great shakes, and should be disposed of easily enough. The only question mark is whether Fingal decide to mix up their team a bit with the league cup QF a few days later, but their squad should be good enough to cope.

Backing Sligo Rovers to win, Draw no bet (Will Hill) @ 9-5 - 0.5 pt
Backing Sporting Fingal to win (Bet365) @1-3 - 2.1 pts
Backing Sligo Rovers to win, Draw no bet (Will Hill) @ 9-5 - 0.5 pt - draw, money refunded
    Backing Sporting Fingal to win (Bet365) @1-3 - 2.1 pts - sweet

    Kildare County -v- Shelbourne

Despite saying earlier I wouldn't be touching this one, I've changed my mind due to tonight's results. Shels are now 5 points behind 3rd place with 2 games in hand. This has now become a must-win game, if it wasn't already. The Drumcondra outfit took a long time to get going against Longford and shipped 2 goals for it, but once they got a goal, Longford could no longer keep out the kitchen sink. Daire Doyle and Richie Baker certainly made differences when they came on, but I don't know if they will start. The return of Doherty to the defence should help them too. The players will be eager to put things right after last week, and I think they should win by 3 or 4.

    Backing Shelbourne to win, -1 goal handicap (Bet365) @8-13 - 2.5 pts

Told you not to bet on us.

Waterford were by a distance the best team I've seen us play so far this season.

Raheny isn't doing so good so far this season. He needs to get himself into a Nutrigrain ad.

They are starting unfortunately. We're missing our entire midfield.

True enough but you will still get promoted. WUFC were one of the worst sides I've seen this season btw.

Daire Doyle that used to play for us?. I thought he was with Bray?.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

Think he is getting them mixed up. Derek Doyle plays for us.

Sorry, it was Derek Doyle I was thinking of. How dare there be 2 D.Doyles in the league!

UCD couldn't manage the win but I'd say both sides would have taken the 0-0 before the game. Hopefully UCD can do the bizo in their next game in the cup. Semi final place on offer and then that 50/1 would be looking very tasty

Poxy Twigg had to go spoil it all and grab a second!

Happy days, thankfully we just nicked one at the end of the half which ensured profit for the weekend. Kildare are bad but not that bad. I'd be weary of backing against them next week at Harps.

Were you at the game Raheny?

Were Kildare up to time wasting tactics while the game was still 0-0?

Also on the odd time that they send a few men forward were they very very slow to track back when posession was lost, indicating a very poor level of fitness?

Were there some shockingly bad passes, terrible wastefulness when they get a corner (if they got any), and the failure to win almost any 50/50 contests in the air?

These were all evident against Waterford. I'm hoping we get a decent price on Harps to beat them next week.

Yeah was at the game alright, we were ****e - they were worse. There was no time wasting at all in the game. They are nowhere near full fitness, basically a team of Richie Bakers. They are awful at defending corners, they lack concentration and leadership. Halfway through the first half they should have taken the lead - their striker missed a one on one chance which should have been converted.

Judging by Harps fans on here I wouldn't be going near Harps!
