    French Footballer visits Mons

FORMER FRENCH INTERNATIONAL VISITS MONAGHAN UNITED

This Saturday, 16th May, former French International Footballer Bruno Bellone will be at Monaghan United’s Kingspan Century Park as he accompanies a group of 50 children aged between 14 and 15 years old as they play a one day tournament against Monaghan United teams from the same age group.

Bellone has played 34 times for France in his career with his first International game against the Republic of Ireland at Landsdowne Road in October 1981 in the World Cup Qualifiers. Ireland were 3-2 winners on the day despite Bellone finding the net along with team mate and now UEFA President Michel Platini.

Bellone went on to play for France in the 1982 World Cup where they made it to the Semi Finals and were awarded 4th place and he also helped them to qualify for and played in the 1984 European Championships (which France won) and the 1986 World Cup.

Bellone’s domestic football career saw him play for AS Monaco, AS Cannes and Montpellier. With Monaco Bellone saw the club reach the pinnacle of French football when in 1982 they won the French Championship and this success was repeated in 1985 when they won the French Cup.

Monaghan United FC are delighted to have such an experienced footballer visiting the club and the team from Collège les Campélières from Mougins in the South of France are very welcome to Monaghan.

Following the mini tournament, the students and their mentors will be travelling to Finn Park, Ballybofey to cheer on the Mons as they play Finn Harps in the FAI League of Ireland First Divison.

The Mons should have a large travelling support in Finn Park!
