    Exclamation The Wire

Sorry for the short notice but just letting you know BBC2 are replaying all 5 series of The Wire starting tonight at 11:20. It's the first time it's been shown on terrestrial TV on these island. There's episodes on every night this week.

There’s a sketch on the comedy website ChannelBee called You Haven’t Seen The Wire?, in which an office worker at a meeting is given very specific instructions by his boss. A crop-headed colleague jokes: “He’s like Wee-Bey to your Avon Barksdale.” Everyone in the room laughs, except one chap in specs, Max. “You know, from The Wire,” crop-head prompts. “Oh, right — I haven’t seen it,” says Max. The room explodes with disdain, mocking the bewildered innocent, until a new boy is herded in to meet the team. “Max here hasn’t seen The Wire,” crop-head tells him. “Has it been on normal telly?” Max begs helplessly, before the raging new boy attacks with lightning speed.

I don't know if BBC will do Series 1 to 5 back to back but they are showing Series 1 Monday & Tuesday this week - don't know if continues througfh the rest of the week.

Only seen series 1-2 myself so hopefully 3 comes around quickly.

I think its the kind of show that is best watched back to back. Having a week between episodes makes harder to follow.

If you enjoyed the first one you should grow to love it as it progresses. It's on every weeknight for the next 12 weeks or so I believe which is much better than having to wait a week between every episode. Box set is still the best way to enjoy it though I reckon.

I just watched the last episode of series 4 last night. I got lent the 5 series box set.

I thought series 1 started a bit slowly with little happening other than young black guys selling drugs and cops doing some detective work. i thought it was a bit tame at this stage and wondered what all the fuss was about. Around episode 4 it all changed, getting more intense, and generally it just got better and better.

The guy with the bow tie from New York is a great character and Omar is just the coolest guy ever on TV. Great show. Still not convinced it's as good as The Sopranos.

I saw it all on DVD. I can imagine it'd easy to lose some little thread if you had to wait a week between each episode.

    Superb show.

They appear in 3, fighting the Bargsdale group, but they're not really fleshed out until the following season.

Presume you know by now, but series 2 is showing on BBC 2 now, around 11:30 at night (seems to vary night to night). Last night was episode 2, I think.

Damn right it is. Awesome. Series 5 was not as great as the others (4 is my favourite - just a stunning piece of drama, in any format) but it was wound up very nicely. With appropriate endings for nearly all the characters I thought. Some heartbreaking, some which raised a cheer (two in particular, for those who have sen the final episode I bet you can guess which two) I never expect to see anything this mighty on TV again. I've almost finished "The Corner" David Simons first look at the drug scene in Baltimore. While it's very good, and well worth a watch, it's just not as good as the Wire. Seriously, I could wax lyrical about this programme for ages.
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.
