The 2002/03 was the transition season and was shortened to three rounds of games - 10 teams playing 27 games each - so that it ended in January. The close season was from then until April, when the 2003 summer season kicked off.
Unfortunately I wasn't paying much attention (or any at all) to the league in 2002, so when they mentioned two FAI Cup Finals in the same year I started wondering how this happened.
Can anyone tell me how the transition worked?

...and also bequethed the future quiz question to later generations: "Who lost in the FAI Cup but went on to win it in the same year?"
