    Never a truer word spoken.

Harps are up the left financially. I'm sure the last thing they wanted was to miss out on a gate - probably one of their bigger ones of the season.

Harps are just guilty of trying to repair their pitch on the cheap by buying a job-lot of sand & gravel instead of the proper sand, and then trying to cover it up by pretending there was nothing wrong in having a dangerous pitch covered in parts with gravel.

    Incompetance and denial.

Should I put another LOL in here Fintan?

All clubs have made (and will make) massive mistakes. Time to move on from this, surely?

    There's a bigger picture here.

The FAI/Licencing people are cracking down on clubs more firmly now in relation to finances and the wage cap. They've introduced regular in-season checks to monitor and flag more promptly any developing problems.

The whole idea of Licensing is to raise the standards in all areas of the game.

One of the major loopholes in relation to infrastructure, is that where you have plans to move to / construct a new stadium or radically overhaul your existing stadium, then they tend to overlook major deficiencies in your current ground. It's no secret that the pitch at Finn Park has had major problems over the years because of it's proximity to the river and I understand that it's one of the main reasons Harps want to move.

Fair enough - but in the meantime they were given a Premier Div licence even though their pitch is sub-standard. Likewise with Drogheda whose stadium is also below the required standard.

My point is that if we're trying to move the League on, away from such farcical & embarrassing last minute postponements which have happened over the years.

Either a pitch or stadium is up to the required standard or it's not.

Also, like the finances, a pitch may be patched up to pass muster during the close season, but short-term fixes can come undone as the season progresses. Maybe the pitches/stadia should also be assessed on an on-going basis through the season, and if not then sanctions should also be applied?

It doesnt bother me at all if a game is called off at short notice what gets up my nose is the likes of five years ago when we played shels a week after the 2004 cup final and our game was called off an hour into the game due to flooding on the pitch.I know what I would prefer.
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

Flooding happens and matches are called off. Thats all fair enough and I don`t think anyone has problems with that. But when stones are put on a pitch days beforehand and a problem is only realised upon a pitch inspection an hour before the game when teams and fans have travelled for 4 hours and taken time off work is a totally different story.

You wouldn`t see this lack of respect and carry on at junior level

For the third time in three days, yawn.

Why on earth would it be the British Government? Unless they now have jurisdiction in the South. I don't see why they would get involved in a dispute between Pats and Bohs.

I can't understand what ye were doing taking 4 hours to get to Donegal, it usually only takes me 2 and a half to 3 hours to get to Tolka.

Your car must go faster than a coach full of fans so. Or clearly does if you thought about it.

For the record I never, even once, suggested this as even a possibility.

    Gross negligence? Certainly.

    Self-inflicted? Yep.

    On purpose? No.

Still hardly makes it acceptable IMHO. And could lead to a dangerous precedent if not dealt with appropriately.

    Is the water still lying?

Will Finn Park be playable this coming weekend?

A layer of the sand was taken off the pitch and the pitch brushed, it should be in mint condition for Saturday night.

Finn Park was passed last night and it was actually said to be one of the top pitches in the LOI at present now

So, barring unmerciful weather conditions we have the go ahead for the Monaghan game.

I have to say the pitch is the best I have seen it in years, so hopefully the debacle over Finn Park is over and we can get on with climbing to the heady heights of mid table in the first division
