Galway United unveil Patron Scheme

Background

Since the start of the 2007 season, Galway United FC, have had a team playing at the highest level possible for soccer in this country, the League of Ireland Premier Division. Originally promoted for their sound structures and progressive plans for the future, the time has come to re-appraise what the club hopes to achieve over the next five years.

Galway United has been working hard in the community for the last number of years delivering community focused programmes such as ‘Show Racism the Red Card’, ‘Give Drugs the Boot’, school and hospital visits as well as being part of the ‘Galway Healthy City Project and supporting the ‘Shop Galway’ campaign.

Vision

The answer, we believe is to solidify our position at the pinnacle of domestic football.

This would be impossible without the necessary investment in facilities and infrastructure to ensure that young soccer players from the county of Galway have the opportunity to achieve their potential and play at the highest level possible.

With Revenue streams already under strain, this will not be achieved without the help of the businesses and people of Galway. In recent times this strain has been borne by too narrow a range of people and business interests. This has to change and we believe that there are benefits for all.

What is required

The Economic situation dictates that some form of rationalisation is required and the question has to be asked ‘Does the county of Galway need a soccer team?’

We believe the answer is Yes

The recent visit of Shamrock Rovers attracted 400 visiting supporters to the City and much needed income to the County as they travelled through and spent time in Galway. The upcoming visit of St Patrick’s Athletic on Friday and Derry City on Bank Holiday Monday will attract even larger numbers to the County

We believe that it is important to everyone in Galway that we have a soccer team playing at the highest level, but we may be wrong!
