Absolutely the clubs should be held responsible for the actions and words of their managers, but lets not try and make out that this is some huge conspiracy. Dramaqueen ********ology...
Let me get this straight, Dodge. Are you seriously suggesting that in the League of Ireland managers speak to the media in a personal capacity?

(Maybe footballers also play in a personal capacity? )

I think that the Bohemian FC statement is clear and unambiguous, and is forthright in its opposition to racial abuse; Pat Fenlons comments are not.

In the Indo article he does not appear to even condemn racial abuse, and distances himself from being able to do anything about it

It's disappointing. It's disappointing that players are abused every week but what can you do? That's the way it is. Like I said, we've dealt with it as a club, as a unit in here. We'll move on."

Yes, absolutely. Do you think they check everything with the club?

Thats an interesting spin on managers being autonomous!

Its a pure nonsense - Pat Fenlon was being interviewed as manager of Bohemians, and was speaking as the manager.

My point was that he wasn't speaking as PRO of Bohemians, and his individual statements were clearly different from those of the club's official statements.

    Agreed!

The fact still remains that Pat Fenlons utterances, as manager of Bohemians, were woefully inadequate, and a poor reflection on himself and his club

Wow - Dodge we seem to agree on loads of things!

    1) Pat Fenlon is manager of Bohemians
    2) He should keep his mouth closed if he cannot make sensible statements to the media

Hold on a sec... why is there no 6 page thread on this: http://www.argus.ie/news/anger-as-fl...t-1709851.html

'Darren Mansaram was the victim of racist abuse against Drogheda and there was also some racist abuse chanted his way by Sligo fans...'
That's the Dundalk FC secretary Kevin Holland quoted in a local newspaper, yet when Bohs are involved in something it's lock em up and throw away the key time!

I'd also like to point at the thread regarding rovers racist chanting towards Joey Ndo.

Maybe because Mansaram getting abuse from fans is different to a player getting abuse from a fellow player? Maybe not from a moral POV but certainly from a practical POV

    Whats your point?

Do you object to this major story being discussed by posters here?

Do you have a persecution complex, or do you think this is a conspiracy (by the referee/ FAI / foot.ie posters)to tarnish the reputation of Bohemians FC??

i think its abundantly clear what his (very valid) point is and the fact that you are avoiding offering an opinion on the other, similar issues he has raised speaks volumes about your motives.

Well the thread involving ndo was started by a Bohs fan, so he/she obviously felt strongly about it. If you felt strongly about the Manseram thing, why didn't you start a thread on it?

My motive was simply to understand what point he was trying to make!

To my knowledge, this is the first occasion where a player is facing a disciplinary action by the league as a result of racial abuse - and irrespective of what club is involved, invitably attracts comment and discussion.

To moan that "yet when Bohs are involved in something it's lock em up and throw away the key time" smacks of xenophobia. At least other posters on the Bohemians forum have been more measured in their condemnation of the player

Personally, I am opposed to and disgusted by all forms of racism in sport and in society generally.

This whole thread should be closed at this stage.

Mcguinness makes stupid a mistake. He apologises to the player who is willing to leave it at that.

He is then punished by manager and club and he will no doubt receive another ban for FAI which should end this matter.

It did actually, no chanting or anything, just a couple of people shouted stuff. Still shouldn't have happened though.

Genuinely didn't hear anything but disappointed to hear that to be honest.
