Press conferences have been devoted to it and it seems Martin and the players are being asked for their thoughts on it when approached by reporters. Maybe it's not so much of a big deal and they can all remain fully-focused (or perhaps it even takes some of the spotlight and pressure off, as AB says), but I suspect it's the type of distraction for which Roy would have very little time if it were centred around another member of staff or one of his players.

Ack, I like him. He's a solid worker and puts his head down. He can brash and outspoken, sure, but it makes a colourful change from the utterly neutral, robotic and personality-less James Milner types who peddle nothing but the same old hackneyed platitudes and clichés. He's a local lad too, which, of course, helps. But just so you don't think I'm completely biased due to that, I'm not as keen on Gibson's attitude.
And people think I'm a cynic...
Hopefully it would be more competitive than the 'main event'...
