It’s only speculation so far so we’re inclined to tread cautiously, but the Internet and Twitter are abuzz this morning with reports that Keano is set to take charge of Turkish side Kasımpaşa, who currently lie in third place in the Turkish league.
Apparently, Turkish media are reporting that Keane has agreed to take charge of the Istanbul-based club and will be announced as their new manager tomorrow. If the rumours are true, it will be Keane’s first job in management since being sacked by Ipswich in January 2011, but he has been keen to stress his desire to return to the dugout ever since being let go by the Tractor Boys.
We always figured Keane would return to management eventually – he seemed far too uncomfortable as a pundit to make a career out of it – but few would have predicted that he would go so far afield to get his managerial career back on track.
As we said, so far it’s only speculation and we wouldn’t advise reading too much into it until it’s confirmed, but if it is true it will mark yet another unexpected development in a career that’s been full of surprises to date.
Keano seems ready for Turkey, but is Turkey ready for him?
