I played 1 match in the Munster Senior Cup in 1985 - lost to a good Limerick side in Rathbane that included Pat Morley, Tommy Gaynor, Fergus McDaid etc

Stars for Newcastle West that I can remember - Graham Quin, Martin O'Callaghan and the great Miah Dennehy!

They played in a ground called 'The Demesne' and were replaced by the Gate in 1990.

I'm smiling because as a UCd fan, another poster who is very anti-Corporate dived straight in with "...Ballygowan Park." This poster even has discussions about the name of his own club's ground. (He is a Foot.ie Moderator.)

Newcastle United joined the league for 1984/1985 and the beginning of the First Division. They played in black and white stripes like the team the English club they aspired to. They soon changed to Newcastlewest and changed the name of the ground when the local company stepped in.

In 1988 pegasus Fc got a FAI Cup Fifth round (normal 1st/3rd round) draw against them. And the wags (jokers/comics not gender-specific) of Pegasus got Tipperary Mineral Water to sponsor the game at Belfield Park.
    Newcastlewest won.

At a league game, 1988-89. Newcastlewest were already considered whipping boys of the First Division. UCD took a two-nil lead after 15 minutes. I missed the first goal, a well respected groundsman/security man told me " there isn't many goals here, dont miss too many more." luckily, Newcastlewest scored two and equalised before Half-time and fortunately UCD won the game 4-2 in the second half.
" I'll go right up to here,
    it can't possibly hurt.
All they will find is my
    beer and my shirt."

You're a year ahead of yourself with the First Division there.

As for wearing black and white stripes cos we copied NUFC.... Tell that so to NCW GAA who have worn black and white since before Jackie Milburn was born!!! We originally wore all blue!
