No, Jamie McAllister wore the armband.

Of course, given the widespread reportage that it was Duffy who handled it and not McAllister, it is only logical for one to assume that Shane is the victim of a sinister Brit media agenda...

Levity aside, he could have been better for the second goal, but overall he defended well as part of a unit against tricky opposition, making some good blocks and clearances. Yeovil had very little hope of winning this tie.

He's been one of Yeovil's stand-out players this season since joining on loan. Their defence looks a lot more composed with him in the back four and the mistake against Burnley aside, he's been consistently impressive.

Even though they have his flag wrong, he currently tops the whoscored.com Championship player rating: Whoscored.

Here's a video of one of his clearances against Barnsley a few weeks back.

I'd worry that the younger fella Stones has stolen a march on Shane Duffy. The local media have been having a jizzfest over him,
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!

Essentially as he's English he'll already be subject to a better amount of good opinion and coverage.

I mean, Luke Shaw had a 30m valuation lobbed on him yesterday, how much is Seamie worth at that rate?

Duffy remains in Everton's thoughts - RTÉ

"It was a good test to stay here," said Duffy. "I could have gone to other places but I wanted to stay.
"I thought it would be a test for myself and the lads. I have never been in this situation in my career so I wanted to give it my best shot.
“If we come out of it, hopefully it will be good for my career. It’s different to anything I have ever been involved in. Hopefully when I look back at it at the end of career it will have stood me in good stead.
"We have got some important home games that will see where we are. We have had a rough time with a few tough games and we haven’t really got the squad to cover playing them (the likes of Southampton, Derby County and Nottingham Forest) every week.
"But we’re going to give it a good go and now we’re playing teams around us. We need to win these games, that’s what really matters."

I wonder who the other clubs that wanted him were? One of the articles I read made it seem like Everton wanted him at a different club.

    What article was that?

Previously Middlesbrough were reported to be interested, Leicester also. Believe Reading were also keen, so you're talking top-end Championship teams.

I was just thinking about the strength in depth we have in central defence and about the players who could play a part realistically in WC 18 and/or Euro 20 campaigns if they make the requisite progress and realised that some of our best options in and around age 20; Duffy, Hoban, Mark O'Brien and Egan have all already been out with injury for approximately a year each!

Seriously. WTF is it about Irish players being so susceptible to injury?

There's a perception that we're unlucky or cursed in terms of injuries, but I'd be surprised if Irish players generally suffer a disproportionately high number of serious or career-threatening injuries compared to players from elsewhere. All players are susceptible to injury. Most will suffer injury at some point in their careers given the physical nature of the game. We just have less players than other bigger nations playing at the top level or upon whom we can pin our hopes. Inevitably, when our promising prospects do suffer injury, it has greater impact upon our general hopes and ambitions as we lack strength in depth to fill the vacuum. The loss is greater felt. Naturally, our attentions are already more focused on our own prospects anyway, so we'll certainly know about it when an Irish player otherwise seemingly destined for a bright future suffers injury. Plenty of talented English prospects (of whom we may have little or no knowledge) suffer career-ending injuries, for example, but there are plenty of other equally-talented English players to replace them. We just don't have the same numbers.

Scores for Yeovil. 1 up on Reading.

    Goal!
Goal! Reading 0, Yeovil Town 1. Shane Duffy (Yeovil Town) header from the centre of the box to the high centre of the goal. Assisted by Luke Ayling following a set piece situation.

With so many things working against them - an own goal and three players sent off - 1-1 is a decent result away from home I think.

Duffy is set to break the record for caps at U21 level if he plays against Montenegro next week. He's unlucky not to be in the senior squad on his recent form.

I agree that he should be in there ahead of one or two others. He's on loan from a PL club getting plenty of game time and could be at a PL club or big Championship team next season. All this talk about a thirty something being the only unpredictable call up and the school of thought that the likes of Grealish should be called up for experience. How about a happy middle ground? Take out any of Green, Quinn, Keogh or Pearce and give Eunan O'Kane and Shane Duffy a look.

Yep, but as per the debate around a lot of Trap's squads these selections are marginal. He might be in, he might not. I'd prefer our U21s won than Duffy getting another chance to train with the senior guys.

Martin O'Neill watched Shane Duffy help Yeovil keep a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.

And they'd be out of the relegation zone if it wasn't for Derby losing to Millwall. Damn that Richard Keogh.
