Dublin City have released a number of players

John Browne,
Andy Noonan,
Graham Dunning,
Robbie Dunne,
Mick O'Byrne,
Alan O'Connor.

Nothing official from the club, but have it on good authority

The others are understandable, shame to see Mick O'Byrne released after getting the club promoted, but I suppose his history of injuries counted against him. Hope he finds a new club (UCD, maybe?) Have to say that each and every player deserves all the credit for the league win, and for the six lads leaving the club, I would like to thank you each for your contribution.

Look forward to keeping an eye on your progress over the next few seasons.

its a pity anyone has to go , but thats football. noone can take away their medals or memorys.

Some further thoughts on those released...

John Browne: Not such a surprise, really - a back-up 'keeper signed as a stop-gap when Brendan Kennedy broke his arm.

Andy Noonan: Bit more of a surprise, but hard to argue. Noonan did seem to be the weak link at the back on a few occasions, and never really recovered from his shocker against Athlone. Still, I thought he might have been retained as a squad player.

Graham Dunning: Gutted

My favourite Viking, despite limited opportunities. I just thought he was the most technically gifted player at the club.

Robbie Dunne: Also a bit of a surprise, given that he was a regular for three-quarters of the season, in a variety of positions. I always felt we lacked a bit of craft when he played on the right, but a more wholehearted player would be difficult to find.

Mick O'Byrne: Just came across these prescient comments by Aidan Smith about O'Byrne's performances with the Under-21s (back in October) : And Jacko believes Micko could be the ace up the sleeve for John Gill as the Vikings make their final push for promotion. "He's great at holding the ball up and he's a smashing finisher and I know he wouldn't let you down if he got a regular first team run, stated Jacko" Buy that man a crystal ball!

As stated above, it's slightly sad to see Micko released, given his crucial involvement in the run-in, but with so many strikers at the club, the axe had to fall somewhere.

Alan O'Connor: Another great servant to the club during the crucial season just past, hit a great run of form (was it five goals in six games?) in mid-season, but then suffered that nightmare at Richmond Park in the cup (gave away two goals, missed a sitter to get us back in the game, then got taken off with blood gushing from a head injury - all in the first half-hour.) Another great trier, but perhaps better suited to First Division football. Still young enough (at 25) to gain promotion elsewhere. Could be a decent signing for Kildare, actually...

Are these likely to be the only players released, chaps?

i think theres a bit of sitting on the fence at the moment, see who else becomes available. agree about graham, his dad was great at the games as well, feel sorry for all the family & friends of the players released.

Jayz - John Browne, Andy Noonan, Robbie Dunne, Mick O'Byrne - if our rejects can win the First Divison, we must be in with a good chance ourselves!

Shame to see some of those boys being let go, but I guess that's the reality of our current situation.
Congratulations to the lads, no one can take their medals from them.

In fairness, he's a decent finisher too. But never underestimate the value of a battering ram in the First Division!

Fu*ken' hell, ye're making it sound like they died! It's a ruthless place in the Premier. Get used to it!
