irishultra: there is nothing wrong with that mindset. Here in Canada, players from around the world come here to play ice hockey because it is played here at the highest level in the world.
Not enough people in Ireland are willing or able to pay the money needed to have a top level development system domestically. Sorry, but that's just a fact.

Chris Fagan scored twice on his debut for Jerez Industrial in Spain.
They're in Division 2B, the third level.

I couldn't find a more relevant thread but I was reading there about an 18 year old from Craigavon in NI who's signed for Porto Alegre in Brazil. He's a striker and his name is Ciaran Ryan, a name which would suggest perhaps an affinity with the south. Just thought it was an interesting story.
Wrong thread, Doh!

Is that the Glenn Hoddle Academy owned team? The GHA is a "second chance" for players released by their clubs. GH and a team of coaches use a high quality facility to continue training young players, with a view to selling them back into football after a year or two. I think the GHA took over a licensed club that was going bankrupt and provided the team with players free of cost. It circumvents the third party ownership rules and will presumably be a route into European football for a lot of young Latin American footballers in future years.
Two Irish over there with Jerez, but there's loads more in other countries.

Anyone know anything about the French goalkeeper?
All I can find:
http://www.fai.ie/index.php?option=c...k=view&id=3476Also drafted into the squad is Stade Rennais goalkeeper, Niall Burdon. The French-born goalkeeper, whose father is from Dublin, earned his first call-up last season at Under-15 level.

Bonnie, I'd be interested in seeing that. Is it online?
To read WSC articles for nothing you have to use the old-fashioned (and thoroughly enjoyable) method of standing amongst the other freeloaders leafing through magazines in Easons.
They're archiving the old editions for the past while, some super reading at www.wsc.co.uk, you could spend hours on it.
