There was a piece on that match in Cork City's matchday programme during the season so if The DOnie Forde is around later he might be able to help you
i'm trying to track down match footage from the international match that took place at Landsdowne Road on 03/07/1973 between Brazil and a joint Ireland and Northern ireland team. The Irish team went under the official name of the Shamrock Rovers All-Ireland XI. and is far as i know its the only occasion the north and south played together.
RTE don't seem to have it. anyone have any ideas on where i might have more success. or does anyone remeber the game itself?????????
thanks

Yeah, we did a 30-year anniversary thing in the programme. Don't have any footage of it, sorry. RTE screened it live at the time and I'm sure I've seen occasional highlights of it on RTE also since then. If they don't have it, don't know who will - Louis Kilcoyne perhapsOriginally posted by joe

...Schwanholz, Herisau: a little bit of heaven...
Just to pick up on that point it is often forgotten that an All Ireland XI met an English XI in 1955 & 1956 as part of the An Toastal celebrations.Originally posted by The Donie Forde

Furthermore the IFA picked All Ireland teams up until the 1950 International v Wales.
I can't believe that RTE never kept a copy of this match. It was Brazil we were playing FFS. And even if it were Greenland, there must be a copy at Donnybrook. As for persoanl copies off the telly, I don't think anybody had video recorders in 1973. First one I saw was used at school for showing a sex education programme circa 1980.Originally posted by deadman

This is the cooooooooooooolest footy forum I've ever seen!
thankfully .... it looks as if there may be some footage in some format. apparently they've tracked down a tape - not quite sure what format it is - with the match title and date but as of yet nobody's checked the tape to see how much of it is there.
it doesn't come up on their database search because of its old format.
we almost had to go in and search ourselves
Brilliant. Knew it had to be somewhere. If you can transfer onto VHS would love to purchase a copy. Seven goals!!!

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
Hi!!
If you are able to do copies of it, I would love to purchase a copy as well. I wasn't actually alive back then but it would still be great to see!!
On a similar note, does anyone know where I might get hold of pre-1990 video footage of Ireland matches? If so, please email me at emmet@irelandshirts.com
Thanks
