    Airport strike 30th March

Dont know if this has been posted yet but there is a possible national strike day in ireland on Mon 30th March.
If it happens the airports will be closed that day. we have changed our plans and are now flying out on sunday. Did not change to tUESDAY AS THERE WILL BE A BIG BACKLOG FROM THE PREVIOS DAY. STRIKE MIGHT NOT HAPPEN BUT WOULD NOT TAKE THE CHANCE

With the strike in mind we decided to book a flight out to Milan early on Sunday morning - we were originally scheduled to go out on Monday evening and Easyjet to Bari early on Tuesday. The one way flight cost only €48 but its worth it for peace of mind. It will mean 2 days in Milan and an extra night 's accommodation. If the strike doesn't take place we just don't fly but can reclaim the taxes which are about €25.

If there is a strike there will not be a backlog - flights will be cancelled and people will have to re-book with no guarantee of flights the next day, Tuesday and missing out on connections etc........

That was my understanding of the schedules, but although in theory flights on Tuesday (mine) should be unaffected if planes arent in the right location its bound to have some affect. There is no Malta flight on the Monday so not sure if this is a good or bad thing.

Have to fly out of Dublin otherwise get back to Dublin and the cars is in Belfast?

Just spoke to somebody in ICTU. They said that it only affects companies that have not paid the National Wage Agreement. He said that Aer Lingus had paid it and as such should not be involved. However, there were other groups in the airports (all of them) who had not been paid the Agreement and these could cause the airports to close on the Monday

just great. we are flying out on the monday evening.
flight shortages, multiple flight stopovers, accommodation shortages, rip-off travel agents, ticket worries, late venue changes, airport strikes etc etc.... someday these trips will be made easy for us!!

I think we were on the same flight as you JB - Aer Lingus to Milan Malpensa ??. We are now going to Milan Linate at 07.10 on the Sunday morning - if the strike goes ahead

Yeah same here but the secret is hand luggage only to avoid having to wait for bags off plane.

4 of us have flights booked from dublin to stanstead that monday afternoon to get connecting flight to bari at 17.25.

How likely is it that this strike will go ahead and stop flights out of dublin, would people recommend we book alternative flights out of dublin sunday evening so we dont miss our connection.

Or will the government actually sort this mess out and resolve it before it comes to pass!

We're due to fly to Bari via Paris on the 30th. We didn't want to take the risk of waiting until much closer to the time only for the strike to be confirmed and the price of the Sunday flights going up, so we booked an "insurance flight" to Paris on the 29th. It only came to 40 Euros each so it's alright. If there's no strike we'll just use the original flight on the Monday and if there is a strike, at least we're covered by a flight which goes out the day beforehand, that was decently priced. We won't book accommodation in Paris until the strike is absolutely confirmed.

My mate rang the ICTU today and they said that it will be confirmed either way in the next week or two whether this strike will go ahead.

Anyone else thinking of making other travel arrangements?

Quick update: we are after booking another flight from dub to milan on the sunday now, cost €35, we think that's the best bet as the uncertainty of the strike was messing up our plans.

Anyone else decide to do the same?

It's gonna be an expensive trip that's for sure!
