January signings can play as long as they havn't played in European competition. Champions League squads are allowed 3 changes when the knock-out phase starts.

Yep, if they have played in the CL pre-Jan for their old team then they can't play for the new side. Example is Arshavin last season (played for Zenit vs Juve, Real and BATE pre Christmas) couldnt play for Arsenal vs Villareal or Man Utd.

On the other hand Real Madrid could register Lassana Diara as he had only played UEFA Cup football for Portsmouth pre-Christmas. It's interesting to note that Huntelaar had also played only UEFA Cup football that season for Ajax before his January signing for Real - but they could only register one new CL player and picked Diarra.

So Man Utd could sign one new player for the CL who could either be a player who has not played European football this season (e.g. Palacios) or one who has only played UEFA Cup football (e.g. Cahill)...

you can register up to three changes but only one who has played in another Uefa competition and none who have played in the CL for another club.

Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak claims No.1 Edwin van der Sar is of little help to him.

The Pole, in his fourth season at Old Trafford, says that he often asks the 39-year-old Dutchman for advice and help.

But, he feels that van der Sar does not pass on advice as he would like.

"To be honest, I must say this and Edwin doesn't like this too much for sure, but he doesn't help me too much," "I have told him a few times already to give me some more advice because he's got more experience and got many more games under his belt.

"I say, 'You have to give me something more because I like to know what I do wrong and like to watch other people. Doing that I can take some good from the advice I get.'

"But I don't know, maybe Edwin doesn't like me. You'll have to ask him."

The 27-year-old admits that he finds it hard not playing regular first-team football.

"I've already waited three-and-a-half years," he said.

"I will wait longer but my ambition is so big and I want to have a nice feeling after games, be tired and go home and think, 'Oh, you did a good job'."

It was only a matter of time before his frustration manifested itself I suppose. He's very much No.3 now despite all the mistakes Foster has made.

Always seemed a better keeper than Foster imo. Saw him a few times at West Brom and thought he was excellent (shot stopping anyway).

I think Foster has more ability to be honest, but is also more prone to errors.

nice one rafa b try and focus some attenion away from liverpool
would not expect anybody to be happy being 2-3 choice player for any team .. suppose it could have been worse they could be fighting in training

VDS always struck me as a great team player, seems very odd that Kuszczak would say this even if it was true, unless of course he wants away. I'd say this is closer the truth somehow...

    Fergie says Kuszczak was joking

If a players has played in any european competition then they cannot play for another club in europe in the same season. If players are registered but have not played then they can still play for another club.

Has that changed from last year ? I'm sure Diarra played for Pompey against Vitoria Guimares and then played for Real in the CL against Liverpool...

Someone said in another thread that a club can register one UEFA Cup player for the CL in January as part of their three allowed changes.

    chelsea defeat utd..

looking at teams before game i fancied chelsea big time and thought they would overrun utd.
but as it turned out utd dominated chelsea especially in midfield / defence was sound enough anelka / drogba very quiet . rooney was excellent for utd only thing missing was a goal..

referee was very picky on soft frees and 4 big decisions cost utd a win or share of points

    1. offside decision in first few mins rooney clearly played on by ashly cole and linesman looking straight at it.
    2. valencia penalty claim again linesman looking straight at incident and bottled it
    3. fletcher foul on cole for free kick to winni g goal fletcher clearly won ball .
    4. winning goal terry flicked on drogba pulled down wes brown and was clearly offside when he attemted to touch ball in on six yard line.. he was in an active offside position and interfering with play again missed by linesman and referee in a terrible possition 10 yards outside 18 yard box..
utd must be frustrated as they were better team on day ... can somebody explain how anelka got man of the match ???
finally drogba what a cheating playacting tw*T after evans challange he had spasms / leg twitches and i thought chelsea would have to bury him on the pitch yet he made a miracle recovery to get involved in winning goal he drives me nuts .. chelsea were so negative after they scored the amount of times they tried to waste time was shocking

Deserved something from the game yesterday to be fair. If they keep playing like they did yesterday, they wont be too far off the pace come the end of the season.

Didn't get any of the big decisions from the ref but i suppose got enough over the years so hard to feel sorry for them. Haven't actually got any big decisions since the attack on Wiley. Wonder if Jeff Winter has had a word!!!! Overall they deserved something from the game but didn't thing they created the clear chances being made out. Few decent shots from Rooney outside the box other than that nothing. Thought Fergie would have gone two upfront from the start and had a real go. In days gone by he would have. What's the story with the marking for the goal?? Terry and Anelka both free. I noticed O'Shea going mad over this while others ran to the ref. Do Utd man mark or zonal mark?
