    FAI Cup

    1st Round:

    Tralee Dynamos vs Clonmel Town

    2nd Round:

    Winners v Dundrum/St. Mary's

Clonmel would beat many League teams, but based on Sunday's performance, Dynamos are fully capable of advancing. Know little about the other two teams, but would imagine they're of similar standard to Cherry Orchard or Rockmount.

Says a good crowd here. My buddy was at it and I think he said a couple of hundred, really not sure though. He reckons there would have been a bigger crowd if it didn't clash with United-Villa.

Is the venue, Cahermoneen, where Dynamos are playing in the FAI Cup this weekend their home venue?

Yes, they can call it either Mounthawk park or Cahermoneen, because both parts of Tralee are in the general area, and there's no official name for the ground. It's like the way Upton Park is actually a part of London, rather than the official name of West Ham's stadium.

    I'm confused

Upton Park is the name of West Ham's stadium. It's what the club use as their address, put on their programmes etc etc etc. Whether or not it is also the name of a part of London doesn't matter. West Ham is also a part of London, and doesn't stop that being the club's official name ?

    Yours,

    Confused in London

    Dear confused,

A better example would be that well known team in Glasgow who traditionally played their games in Parkhead, now playing in the the exact same place but its called Celtic Park.

For an example closer to home, note that while most people call Finn Harps' ground Ballybofey, the club use the name Finn Park.

West Ham's Stadium is called "The Boleyn Ground" afaik. It's referred to as Upton Park after the general area it's in.

    Dear Clarifier,

The Glasgow club's twin stadium name is a welll known entity, and I would question how many people genuinely think Finn Harps ground is called 'Ballybofey' rather than Finn Park. People mistakenly calling a stadium after the suburb where it's located - that's a mistake I can see happening. But people thinking a stadium is named literally after the name of the town/village itself, and nothing else (e.g. not even Ballybiofey Stadium/arena etc)...?

    Regards etc,

    Still in a purple haze

    Tralee dynamos ground...

The fact is we dont have a "proper" name for our home ground. Our ground is adjacent to Mounthawk Park (where Kerry League play), but both grounds are in an area of Tralee known as Cahermoneen.

On our match program, we use Cahermoneen - hope this clarifies all the confusion.

The other 2 wouldn't be anywhere near that standard. Dundrum are bottom of the LSL with 1 point from about 18 games! St Mary's are midtable in the Cork MSL. If you beat Clonmel Town you should be able to win the next round.

    Best of luck.

    The season so far

Two months into Dynamos first season at national level, and so far it has been an outstanding success. It was thought that the team would struggle at first to adjust to the quicker pace and higher standard of games, but results have been excellent to date, particularly against Bohemians and Cobh Ramblers. While Cassidy and Sugrue have been the stand-out players, the whole team has been on top form, and the side are certainly on course to finish in the top three-five places in the section on current form.

    FAI Cup

    Tralee Dynamos v Salthill Devon

With Salthill in blistering form and destined to join Mervue in the First Division, it looks like the end of the road for Dynamos, who would have quietly fancied their chances against an out-of-form First Division side like Longford or Kildare. Still, home advantage will surely benefit the side, and if every player is on top form, the side will be looking to force a replay.

Dynamos v Salthill will be a tight game. Hard to call though i think Salthill will just about shade it.

I wouldn't be that disheartened. Salthill look to have played the weakest teams in their group. I think Tralee's win away at Bohs is more impressive than any of Salthill's results.

Disheartened would be the wrong word, just I'd imagine there will be plenty of hype about the tie over the next few weeks, and it's important to quieten expectations, when MNS practically had Tralee in the next round already, which doesn't do Salthill much justice.

    Tralee Dynamos v Shamrock Rovers

Three points off leaders Bohs with a game in hand, and boosted by mid-season signings from Killarney Celtic,Tralee Dynamos are in contention for the Southern Championship, but these credentials will be severely tested by the visit of Shamrock Rovers to the Kingdom. Victory over Bray would have put the Tallaght team second in the table, and while a draw's the mostly likely outcome, home advantage may give Tralee three valuable points.
