    Stevo!

    From eleven-a-side.com

    O’Flynn happy on Shannonside

Limerick FC striker Stephen O’Flynn insists he is happy to stay on at the First Division promotion contenders - despite being tracked by two of the Premier Division’s big guns, Cork City and St Patrick’s Athletic.

O’Flynn is nearing the end of his second season at Limerick after being released by Cork City in 2002.

But now Leesiders’ manager Pat Dolan - who was not at the club when he was originally let go - wants to take him back to Turners Cross, while Saints boss Eamonn Collins is also keeping tabs on the 21-year-old front man.

Both managers were in attendance at the Pike Rovers Sports Ground on Wednesday as Limerick were held to a scoreless draw by Derry City in the promotion/relegation play-off semi-final first leg.

However, while admitting to being flattered by the clubs in pursuit of his services, O’Flynn - who has scored 28 goals in his two seasons with Lims - insists he does not want to leave the financially-troubled Shannonsiders.

He told the Irish Daily Star: "It’s flattering to be the subject of so much attention and it’s nice to have high-profile people watching you. But my heart is very much with Limerick. In fact I love it here.

"The players are so close having been through so much. But we have stuck together through thick and thin. There is a great camaraderie among the lads and I would hate to just up and go."

Apparently he was talking about next season coming home on the bus too. Fingers crossed we can keep this team together, add a couple of players and away we go.
The ball is round and has many surprises.

It will take a gargantuan effort to keep them together, at least under the current regime. When they have had time to reflect, take advice and consider what options are available to them, then I'd say we'll see a few changes

You mean after Noel O'Connor rings Stevo and a few of the others and persuades them to try their luck in Cork?

It will be interesting to see how many of the lads he'll look to sign. Keating already linked withe them. They need a centre half badly as well - Paddy Purcell? And a right full too? Stephen can't go too far - he's got a Leaving to do next June.

Keatings not playing soccer next season, he's playing Gaelic Football and says he wants to concentrate on that. Paddy Purcell has been linked with Longford, but I'd say Cork would have a preference for Finny. I'd say we'll get another year out of O'Mahoney simply because of the education thing.
It's very hard to blame Noel O'Connor or anyone else for that matter who tries to poach Stevo or any of the rest of our lads. It a business now, this Eircom League, and every business hunts for the best deals axailable.Unfortunately we're probably going to become the TK Maxx of the football community-Quality brand names going cheap!!
