just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Pardon? SDCC saw off one of the most powerful reactionary forces in the country and won, and are in the process of developing a top-class community stadium. I might bridle at the Rovers triumphalism and resent their burning desire to see Bohs out of business but I would also credit them for availing of the opportunity at the right time.
For the record 1, and a lot of Bohs fans wished them well in their Court travails in recent years .
I think you might be confusing bitterness with rivalry?
GUFCT you obviously spent too long in the Tallaght hospitality suite on Saturday night![]()
The actual facts are that it was Ministers O'Donoghue and then Brennan (RIP) that saw off the GAA. The SDCC actually bent to the will of the GAA by holding a vote which agreed to move from the original plan of building a stadium suitable for soccer but not senior GAA games.
After that vote Minister John O'Donoghue informed the SDCC that Dept funds would only be available on the original basis i.e. a soccer stadium, the SDCC then held another vote to revert to the original position.... it was that cowardice by the SDCC that opened the door for Thomas Davis to seek and be allowed to have a judicial review which although they lost did lead to a 18 month delay in the completion of the stadium....
so to say that the SDCC saw off one of the most powerful reactionery forces in the country is a complete misunderstanding of the facts... as for your statement about confusing bitterness and rivalry... I'll let others on this forum form their own views on that but now at least you won't confuse the facts regarding the SDCC who interestinly are now chuffed with their foresight as they bask in the fact that they are bringing in over €1m per annum (by having Rovers as anchor tennants) to the local economy and of course the small matter of Real Madrid appearing in their stadium next month.
I can't believe anyone would complain about an Irish public body investing money in football in Ireland. Seriously, sin't this exactly the thing we'd like to see all over the country?

My undersatanding was that it was the elected members who varied the County Managers order to go ahead and finish the satand as originally envisaged and looked to increase the pitch size and then relented in the face of O`Donnohues threat to withold funding? The non-elected Council staff were behind its use as a football stadium from the outset and should be given credit for that?.
The Local Reps, with some honouable exceptions, twisted in the wind trying to sniff out what was the popular decision to take and if you are referring to them I would 100% agree that they should take no credit whatsoever.
You are correct that it was the elected councillors who voted to make the change to a soccer/GAA stadium after pressure from the GAA.... however since they are the executive that are charged with the power to make the decisions on behalf of the council , i.e.they that are the statutery 'voice' of the SDCC...the elected staff can only advise and make recomendations.... so it doesn't really matter what the non elected officials tried to do, the reality is that the SDCC tried to cow tow to the GAA and only came to heel when the Minister intervened, and that's why I wouldn't be offering up much praise for their actions.
