Kenny: We couldn't risk the club


Stephen Kenny has told setanta.com that he wasn't prepared to risk the future of Derry City by over-spending his budget. The Candystripes only brought three new players in during pre-season even though they were expected to strengthen in more areas.

Kenny insists that the long-term future of the club is far more important than any short-term gain that might have come if he splashed out on more players. Each of the ten clubs in the Premier Division this season are operating on tighter budgets and with reduced squad sizes. Derry have vowed to stay full-time, yet they are bound by the same restrictions that have been imposed at other clubs.
