I'm not on a high horse - I love my club and the league but face it it's hardly the best supported league in the world, is it? And first div clubs tend to be even less so.

RTÉ broadcast to 5m or so people around the island - about 20,000 of us follow LoI. plenty of fariweather fans bu tyou can't really count them.

Not defending RTE just askin you lot to get real - stop being negative and try to promote your clubs if no one else will do it for you. sniping at me or the Drogs won't help anyone either. And if we get relegated anytime soon it'd be sh!t but I reckon someone at the club would engineer a match report per game.

Personally I prefer an unbiased account of the game which is what you'd get, for the most part, in what I outlined in my first post.

like I say crying over an RTÉ decision won't help the first Div.

What's the story with extra-time regards this, they did some First Div games last year but could be a little hit & miss, any plans to cover all the games in the new season now they have a year under their belt?

But is the lack of support because of lack of coverage, or is the lack of coverage because of the lack of support.

Both could be argued. RTE had figures of over 300k for some of their live LOI games in the last couple of years so there is somewhat of an audience there

That would be 2270 minimum fans (that can't be right ), at €165 per head is €374,550 per year.
Ok looking at it that way, just cover Shels and Harps games forget aboutt he rest
Wouldn't affect RTE as they don't collect or receive the licence fee

True. However the figures were terrible last year. I can't remember waht the Cup final was but I think even that was barely above 100k (open to correction). I thought numbers might be better for MNS but only ones I heard were approx 80k.

Are people really saying that the First Division doesn't warrant mention on Aertel because of the lack of support?

    ah ffs

bang goes the only radio coverage for those of us outside of Ireland

    ****ing disgraceful

EDIT: And I did drop an email to RTÉ asking if Friday Sportsnight would be back for the new season - I got a reply back on Monday from the Friday Sportsnight email account (the one we use to email the show on a Friday night) telling me to forward the email onto a couple of other people within RTÉ.

I'm yet to receive even an acknowledgement from them - let alone a reply...

If you want to email someone within RTÉ who it looks like has some responsibility for this then: paddy.glackin@rte.ie and roy.willoughby@rte.ie are the people to contact

Did you e-mail newstalk and ask them about their coverage? (and yeah I'm too lazy to do it myself)

I usually checked extratime for write ups on the matches. The limerick one was good as where otheres. I'd say the lads doing those would be willing to send in a quick round up of there home match to RTE to throw up on aertel, as someone said before, goals, cards team etc... At least one person from every club anyway would most likely to be willing to do it. They'd probably do a better job too, get names of scores right and things like that.

If you want a service that has previews and reports from the first division games, goals as it happens, and lineups etc, that is exactly what extratime.ie are going to give you. Why do you need that on RTE if you can get it from extratime?

Why does it have to be on RTE or Aertel? Extratime are going to be offering a comprehensive coverage of both divisions this season. So, why not just log on to Extratime.ie and enjoy their coverage and support a site with a genuine interest in the league?

    Of course they will.

We haven't exactly seen a clamour of advertisers looking to cover the LOI First Division, now, have we....?

RTE reflects what Irish people want to watch. And it ain't the LOI First Division...

And that would be fair enough if it were TV3, its not .... its the National Broadcaster and they take a license fee. They can say whatever they want but LOI is their remit.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Ignoring the inaccuracy in your response, the nation has shown time and again that it has limited appetite for LOI football. Hence why RTE can feel free to give it less attention that you believe it deserves.

We need to waken up to the fact that we are a minority interest, and stop expecting the world to do us a favour out of some idealistic compulsion. When we sort our league out - in terms of finances, facilities etc - then we can start looking externally to see who we think should be helping us out. But at the moment we're not even helping ourselves.
