Sligo look decent value at 6/4 for me. Obviously thats only an initial thought.

I certainly wouldn't be backing Pats at 4/5

Limerick 5/2 @ UCD with PP, looks tasty to me.

I'd think I'd go for UCD here or, depending on the prices, under 2.5 goals.

Pats were tipped in the Sunday Indo yest at 4/5 by their betting guy who said they were overpriced!
Then elsewhere in the same paper Richie Sadlier said they are strugglling badly with injuries and suspensions!

Waterford look overpriced at 12/5 Boyles at home to Fingal. I think it's much too big a price, bookies running scared of Fingal's big name signings!

We're 1/2 at home to Wexford and if I can lay us @ 1.6 or below I will be doing so. Wexford have made some nice signings and the bookies are being cautious towards us.

What do people make of Wexford Youths finishing ahead of Athlone?

I'd be extremely surprised if they didn't. I think Youths will be pushing top half and Athlone will be bottom 3.

Any odds on under 2.5 goals in Youths v Shels? I'd say it's very likely.

Yeah I've been thinking about this all week and I think this bet is my nap for the season. Hacketts are offering season match bets on certain clubs. One is Wexford 10/11 V Athlone 10/11. I've been looking for reasons as to why I shouldn't be backing backing the Youths in this one bet. It's a stand out banker to me, considering all the problems the midlanders have had off the field.

Was just looking for the same bet myself but could find nothing. The bookies think we will have it easy so hopefully the push under 2.5 goals boat out a lilttle. It will be a very tight game and I feel it has a 1-1 draw written all over it.

Gone for a UCD, Derry and Shamrock Rovers treble. 4 euros returns about 25. Monaghan also good value at 17/10 I reckon against us.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

Since it's the opening series of games this weekend I'll be taking it easy on the betting front but there are a few that stand out that deserve a place in a small accy:

    Longford Town v Monaghan United

Monaghan United @ 17/10 - These are the type of First Division games you don't want to be getting involved in, betting wise. However, Monaghan could be the dark horses of the graveyard this year and they are a tempting price to turn over a poor Longford side.

St Patrick's Athletic v Galway United

Galway United @ 10/3 - Pats have gone from full-time to part-time during the off season. Though some of the bookmakers don't seem to realise this and are offering a home win @ 8/11 . They have got ridden of a number of keys players without replacing them. Also they seem to have a mini injury/suspension crisis at home this weekend, so the Galwegians look value @ 10/3.

    Waterford United v Sporting Fingal

Sporting Fingal @ 6/5 - Reports suggesting that WUFC have **** all fit strikers this weekend and could line up with a 4-5-1 formation, a formation that Fungal will have to get use to this season me thinks. Fungal have gone full time this term, the only club in the graveyard to do so so they could and should run away with the title this year. 6/5 is not a great price for the first game of the season but it's your typical accy 'double upper'

    Mervue United v Athlone Town

    Over 2.5 Goals @ 11/8
    - This game should be similar to November's Play Off games between Mervue and Kildare. Both poor sides which should involve plenty of headless chickens and a game which will end up with a ridiculous socreline of 3-3 or something nonsensical like that!

    Kildare County v Finn Harps

    Over 2.5 Goals @ 11/10
    - An away win was going to be my nap of the weekend but having learned that Finn Harps have brought in alot of youngsters to replace last season's high earners I'll be staying clear of it now. Kildare aren't even suppose to be in this division this term and they are not ready for it whatsoever, they'll be lucky to reach the 15 points mark come November. I seen them playing last week, they were hammered 5-1 by an uninterested Shels side. This game should also be the like the one above, goals galore!

Any word on what the in running game is?

Raheny, some controversial choices there. Pats' are PT in name only from what I hear.

At guess I'd say Dundalk / Bohs

True but plenty of part time clubs in the league are the same. You won't see clubs training 2 nights a week, more like 3 or even 4 these days. In saying the that, the mini selection headache for Kenna could be enough for an away win, hopefully

Wexford in this match bet are evens with Hills and I'm ploughing into it. Mick Wallace himself is hopeful of top six finish while Athlone will surely finish in the bottom three. I'm not into Ante post betting, especially @ evens but I can't resist this one and it's the biggest Ante post bet I've ever placed. This is my nap for the League of Ireland season.

Have also placed a small EW bet on Jay O'Shea for top scorer @ 33/1. He managed to get 8 last season with a struggling Galway side so hopefully he can bag a few more next time round. The only downside though is that he could be snapped up in the summer by a club across the water.

    Season Bets:

3pts on Wexford to bt Athlone in a Season Match Bet @ Evens (Hills)

    0.25pts EW on J. O'Shea for Top Scorer @ 33/1 (Hacketts)

Jason McGuinness 25-1 insurebet first scorer tonight with PP. Decent bet in a game likely to be decided from a set-piece, given that he'll probably start.

Good luck Raheny. I couldn't back antepost at evens (couldn't tie up that much money) but the reasoning is sound.

I've had 3 bets this week. Fremainis anytime scorer in the Pats game 3/1 with boyles (then fond out he was 7/2 with powers but I had missed that market)

Overs in the Pats game (layed unders at 1.7)

Bray to beat Rovers at 3.5 on betfair

Yeah I'm usually the same myself but I think they have got this one the wrong way round. Hills have Athlone @ 8/11. Wexford haven't lost any players and have brought in a few decent 1st division players. Athlone seem to be going backwards while the youths are looking up. Only time will tell though.
