Add to this the explosion of football revenues and Liverpools failure to capitalise on the global brand until recently along with billionaire owners buying clubs, the miracle is that we are(were) competing with Man u and Chelsea for the past 4-5 years.

Finishing 2nd last year, winning champions league + another final are examples of punching above our weight. Sunderland and Spurs are investing more money in there squads than Liverpool, they also have larger wage bills. The facts are that Benetiz has had less than 20 million net spend each year to invest in the squad and this year the lack of investment has caught up,we have leveled off. We have a very poor squad depth in terms of quality, money buys quality and we dont have any
A few quick points on this :

    1) The Moores family were an integral part of the club for 50 years. They were backing the club when league titles were the norm.

    2) Under Moores as chairman, Liverpool won all possible titles/trophies with the exception of the PL and World Club Championship. They reached the World Club Championship final in 2006 and finished 2nd in the PL last season and also in 2001 when they won 3 other trophies. I think it is a bit unfair to say that his reign coincided with "The whole downturn" and there were more than a few "glory days". I religously followed the club in those days and can honestly say that I and all the real reds that I know had some brilliant days back then. I look back on the tenure of GH and Thommo and feel nothing but pride .......

    3) Why are you and so many people so sure that DIC would have been any better? The phrase "Far away hills are always greener" springs to mind when I hear people say this about DIC? DIC could have come in and put a wage cap in place or decided that they want make the club financially solid before jumping into the purchase of expensive players.

    4) The fact that Liverpool are rubbish at marketing and customer service etc is the fault of those directly employed by the company. Its too easy to blame Parry etc. When you ring the ticket office and get rubbish service, for example, it is the fault of the person on the other end and their manager. Also, lets not forget that most locals dont actually like people from outside Liverpool taking "their" tickets and attending games. Without wools, the clubs marketing income would be zilch.

Hope your right reder. I can remember 0-0 at anfield in 07/08 Though Fat Head was managing them then and his record was/is great against us.

If the game was at St. Andrews then it would be a very tricky affair alright. As it is at Anfield, I think it will be a 2-0 home win. An early goal would be very welcome though. I presume Gerrard is out since he is not in the England squad for the Brazil game.

I just realised that I will be in Liverpool for the derby, for a wedding that Saturday. Not flying home til late on the Sunday so im gonna break my duck and go to the game. Ticket sale is on Thursday morning, I see.

Yeah sale starts on Thursday on 14 credits (not so bad). Won't be going to the derby as that along with Bolton and Wigan i can't get a ticket for this season. A few going to Blackburn the week after. Will you go to that?

No chance, I am in London for the first weekend in December. My next Liverpool game will probably be Fulham at Anfield next year and my seat location for that one is already a sore subject.

Yes but I am speaking specifically of David Moores who took on sole responsibility in 1991. The lack of investment, business nous and specifically failing to secure target signings became the norm. Prior to this when Liverpool targeted a player - they got him.

    2) Under Moores as chairman, Liverpool won all possible titles/trophies with the exception of the PL and World Club Championship. They reached the World Club Championship final in 2006 and finished 2nd in the PL last season and also in 2001 when they won 3 other trophies. Agree downturn may be the incorrect word. I follow the club intensely also and some of the GH years were fantastic but we are still no closer to winning the League title and that is what ultimately determines how sucessful you are. The FA cups, Carling cups, UEFA and Champions league wins were fantastic.Comming second in the Premier League or qualifying for the CL are vital for revenues but LFC is about winning League titles not our bank balance. Moores took a decent profit out of the club and can he honestly say he ever invested enough to take us on to the next level. I dont think so.

    3) Why are you and so many people so sure that DIC would have been any better? The phrase "Far away hills are always greener" springs to mind when I hear people say this about DIC? DIC could have come in and put a wage cap in place or decided that they want make the club financially solid before jumping into the purchase of expensive players.
lets be honest, could they be any worse than the 2 leeches in control now. We had an opportunity to build on last years 2nd place and invest in the squad but they did not do it. Where is the "spade in the ground" they promised with the new stadium. These morons are liars and will ruin the club if left unchecked. DIC instantly have more credit than G&H as they had the self respect to pull out of the deal when mooores changed direction whored the club to dumb and dubmer for 8 million more. Moores has since admitted that he made a huge mistake selling to the americans.

The responsability for the marketing and revenue growth of LFC ( any company) sits untimately with the Chief exec( Parry) who answers to the board( Moores) and they failed miseribly in that respect. Rafa also blames Parry for failure to land numerous players. The mans heart may have been in the right place but he was not performing in his job. I think the locals are comming to terms with the fact that to compete with the Mancs and Chelsea you need your wools more than ever, their issue is more to do with the type of support SOME of the OOT's bring -a bit like Keanes comments about the prawn sandwich brigade at Old Trafford.
I have responded above in bold. For the record I am a Benitez supporter but not blindly so. He has his faults but I dont think anyone else could have done a better job under the circumstances
you are only a loser when you stop trying. Playing sport does not build character, it reveals it.

Still a half to go and the result could swing, but you must be feeling like a very silly boy at HT

What a screamer for the second, on the balance of play they would be lucky to be level, but on chances they deserve the lead, poor off-side call when Birmingham had a pass for a tap in when one down, and Chucho(?), should have finished his one v one, Liverpool squandering lots of chances too but the difference is they rarely threaten the goal with them(i.e lucas/Ngog chances from goal mouth scramble)
There's the right way, the wrong way.... and the Max Power way!! :-D

Have to say so. After Lyon and the recent pelting in the press, I expected an awful lot more in terms of effort which should have been enough to see off these relegation candidates. There is still no bite in attack. Even with Gerrard and Aqua on it still seemed flat. Also, I dont know why 2 defensive midfielder were used until the 80th minute or so. Brum had no interest in attacking.

I knew Brum would keep 10 behind the ball and with the big names returning I expected Liverpool to have enough to win this.

Why is FACTS significant? I recall Man Utd losing to Bolton, Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle and Chelsea - BLANC - the season they were depending on himself to replace Stam.

I'm about as much a Liverpool fan as I am a fan of Drogheda fans beating their heads on walls - it's not so much that I'm against it as I really don't care.

I got the number of goals scored tonight correct but didnt account for more poor defending against the worst attacking side in the PL, in my opinion.
