didnt they pull all the old newtown lads and park lads together when everyone was talking bout the end of newtown, alot of player taught great idea and left it at that i.e didnt sign wit park just left to bunraty etc. shows lack of desire by some players.
and shows that this one club in shannon thing will not work.

case and point really, with all these good players flcoking to these clubns in town trying to better themselves.
The lads in shannon are definately doing something right, but there is a break down.
Think for the list of good players that have moved away to play ball......

Shannon is too big for one team and was too small for four - 3 is about right.
All it needs is for all the lads from Shannon who play outside to come back and play for a Shannon team and there would be some really good sides and a cracking wesley webb - like the good old days. That competition used to be seriously competitive. Sure you might even come back from the bright lights next year for the good of Shannon football

Just a quick question Pike B? what does it matter who the best shannon born player is? Matches, leagues, cups etc.. are won by a team and a squad not in a 1 v 1 contest. In my opinion, if the best players from shannon did join one club, it would be a squad strong enough to compete and win the limerick premier league, fai or mjc.

I have enough wesly webb's and no disrespect but if a cracking wesly webb is the reason to keep the clubs apart it is a sad state.
I would really fancy coming back to a one club town and have a go at winning a major tropht (MJC or FAI) with a local team. But too old now to be a player doing this but yuo never know in a few years from the side lines.....

Its not about the wesley webb, although the wesley webb is a good measure of the standard of JUNIOR football in the town. You miss my point - the town needs more than just one team. Its too big, too many players would not get a chance to develop. Its up to each club to make themselves the dominant team and attract the best players at all age groups. I just dont think that having only one club is the answer. Nothing to do with politics or loyalties - a town like Shannon needs more than one team as an outlet for players at all ages.

how many junior teams in shannon.
What would be better than playing with the b team trying to get into a team that is challenging for serious honours.
the ww only measures the teams in shannon against each other. for years park would win this handy and would get promoted and then relegated in town. I did enjoy the rivalry of those games but still think one club would be run better, would have better players and would challenge in their league and possibly national honours.
There are plenty of leagues to play in and plenty of players in shannon. No team will ever succeed without a united shannon team.
Shannon town got all the good youths back in 92/93 and were beaten in dublin in an fai semi final. the following year they all went their seperate ways. Imagine if that team was still together (well a few years ago or the average age would be 34 now...)

i still cannot see why players would not want to play with the best players in shannon and play with the best team they can... they would rather play second fiddle and have local (shannon) rivralies....

is this a joke thread, why not break the city into it's main area's northside, southside, dooradoyle, they could do the same thing in ennis and dublin and and cork then some of those teams could join together and all play in a league maybe call it the League of Ireland, great idea lads this could be the start of something big,

Totally right papp-j , its healthy to have local rivalries. Too many teams around shannon at the moment but it doesnt mean we have to try and go for one all encompasing shannon team. Who would we have the banter with if that was the case ??
