Ballyheane-Snugboro, cancelled waterlogged pitch.
8 galway lads playing for Ballyheane this season! Wouldn't be too happy about that if I was a Ballyheane player.
Leaving certs - Say that to John O'
Look football is about skill and speed and not big fellows kicking lumps out of each other- 17 / 18/ 19 if you’re good enough you are.... and these lads are good enough. I know you cannot have a U18 team in the SL due to the physical side of the game but a few on the team will make a big difference but maybe you are like Hanson you cannot win........ We all know Fahy play a physical game with older lads and teams have to deal with this and I know some day when your youths start coming on board your ideas will change. I hope so.
Now now people in Glass houses shoud not..... In fairness look at the following: Corrigan, Flanagan, Colleran, Walsh, Gavin, Curry(Celtic), McDonnell, Polsih Guy (Glenisland), Griffin (Manulla), McGreal (Ballyglass), Maybe more involved with your first team. We all like signing new players.
Name any successful club in the world with a four or five 17/18 year olds as their main players. Don't exist. Ye will be looking to the experienced players to get ye over the line this year!
8 or 9 of our strongest 16 are under 26, only 3 or 4 over 30. Thats not old, thats normal for any club. Good teams need to be physical in some areas of the pitch. Look at Westport, they play nice football but nothing soft about the likes of Scahill, Horkan, Lawless and Geraty is there??
Its nice to have the young lads coming through as we had in 2002/2003 also but not an excuse for losing surely if your without them?

Are you okay with this comment Joe ?
Can't believe a level headed lad like yourself can put forward this view.
I don't want to preach here but Glasshouses and Stones might seem like an apt parable to start with.
Fair enough, thought I'd have to back track a bit on that comment. As a snugboro player, i've no problem with it, sign whoever you want. I was speaking specifically from the viewpoint of a fringe Ballyheane player who will have to play B football this year as he was pushed out of the A squad by an as of yet unproven Galway league footballer. I hope it works out for Ballyheane and its the prerogative of the Ballyheane manager to sign the players he knows. Its just a high number to sign and I was shocked that that number of players agreed to sign for a whole season considering the distance to travel. Wasn't a dig at anyone.
Joe. A lot of the so called fringe players have moved on or have been moved on and the ethos of the B team has also changed dramatically in recent years.
The kids in the B are not good enough yet but are getting there. Some of the previous A players have left of their own making - Ash, or have been shown the door - You know them. Therefore there is a void and thats where the Galway lads come in. The team will still have a Heane bone of Fahey, Bourke, Coghill, Monroe, McHugh, Oosten and Conroy to name a few.
This road has been travelled before by Westport and Celtic to name just two with chequered results.
We shall wait and see...........
Fair enough, the Ballyheane lads you mentioned are well able to stick up for themselves and if they had a problem with it then they wouldn't need comments like mine to back them up. Didn't mean to....

Where did I use the excuse of not winning because we had our U-18's missing. If you see my post all I said is that we will be stonger when they return. I also mentioned all the players that S&F were missing. You should look at developing your own youth system and stop knocking ours. I also recall wen Scahill, Horkan, Nevin, McLoughlin, McHale, Cameron, Lawless and Geraty all came into a poor Utd team as 18 year olds and as far as I know won the SL the following year.
Colin Corrigan been a boro player for 9-10 years now as has McDonnell
Stevie Gavin is a former LOI player
Flanagan played a few years celtic youths but is essentially A Dub having not played local football for some time
Therefore these statement are void of any substance
The others you are correct. And I wont be debating the matter futher.
By the way you forgot Yohan if thats the case. Alot more recent then the above. selective memory eh?

Everyone is a free agent at the end of the season so its up to themselves if they want to join a new club. No ones getting paid to play in the super league( except for the 8 lads from galway) so its there choice who they play for. Most players moving between clubs around the town(manulla, celtic, snugboro) do so because they have friends or some other connection with the club.
Anyway, my point is it happens to every club, nothing anyone can do about it.
Super League just around the corner, best of luck to everyone and i hope everyone puts up a good challenge and maybe someone else can win the league for a change.
See how many super leagues your young guys win ye. I think Westport had a good bunch of players at that time which led to a good SL team. Pity the best ones now play with Fahy or they could've been LOI by now
I am envious of your youth system, keep up the good work, dont take it too seriously![]()
