The Legends are coming – Liverpool v Celtic Legends
Legends XI is returning to Cork, in a match that will make Irish footballing history, Liverpool Legends will play Celtic Legends for the very first time in Ireland on Monday 16th March at Turners Cross, Cork.
Ger Delaney from Munster FA commented, “We are delighted to be welcoming the return of the Legends to Turners Cross. Following the success of last years match with the Liverpool and Manchester United Legends, we are sure the fans in Cork will come out and support this Liverpool Legends v Celtic Legends fixture on the 16th March.”
When the Legends visited in May 2008, where Liverpool played Manchester United at Turners Cross, the game was featured on Sky Sports and a huge crowd of fans came along to enjoy the game, won by Manchester United 2-1.
Liverpool Legend John Aldridge commented, “It will be great to return to Cork in March. On our tour of Ireland last May, Manchester United beat us once and that was in Cork. We feel we have something to prove to the Cork fans and we will not disappoint them when we play Celtic Legends on 16th March 2009.”
With names like McAteer, Aldridge, Wheelan, McManaman, McAvennie, Mjallby and Collins set to play this will be a game not to be missed.
Celtic Legend Frank McAvennie commented, “Myself and the rest of the lads are looking forward to coming over to Cork to play the Liverpool Legends. We have played the Liverpool Legends a few times in England and they are always competitive games. We have always had brilliant support in Ireland and it’s great to come over and see the fans.”
