    Another Top Tier Sponsor Announced

    FAI Press Release

    Irish Daily Star named top tier sponsor of League of Ireland

    The Football Association of Ireland today (February 9) announced that The Irish Daily Star will become a top tier sponsor of the League of Ireland. The partnership will start in March 2009 for a three year period and they will join Newstalk and eircom as top tier sponsors. Under the agreement the Irish Daily Star will benefit from signage, marketing and promotional rights associated with the League of Ireland Premier and First divisions.

    Welcoming the announcement, John Delaney Chief Executive of the FAI said;

    “I am very pleased that the Irish Daily Star will be one of the League of Ireland’s top tier sponsors in 2009. The Irish Daily Star dedicates a lot of space to covering the excitement and quality of League of Ireland football so this partnership will be positive for them and for our clubs. Under this season’s multi sponsor format we now have seven high profile commercial partners for the League of Ireland. As a result our clubs will benefit from increased funding and subsidies and I thank the Irish Daily Star, as a top tier sponsor, for playing an important part in that.”

    Managing Director of the Irish Daily Star, Paul Cooke said;

    “The Irish Daily Star is Ireland’s No. 1 newspaper for football coverage and we are delighted that our top tier sponsorship will bring increased prize funding for League of Ireland clubs. Our commitment demonstrates once again that The Irish Daily Star is a major supporter of the domestic game from junior and schoolboy level right through to the League of Ireland and our international teams. We have been involved at all levels of Irish football for many years and today’s announcement formalises that commitment to the game.”

    Can we have those fans forums again so?
    The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

    That 'e' has done wonders for Paul already.

    Say what you like about the Star, but they actually do give decent coverage to the league.

    Would be better to have a main sponsor IMO but in the current economy a namber of top tier sponsors may be the best we can hope for.

    At least with Newstalk a sponsor they may give a bit better coverage, rather than last years token few minutes with Roddy and the main presenter (name escapes me) who obviously had no interest in LOI
    I'm what? I'm ants at a picnic?

    So what is the name of the league going to be?

    The "Drink Lucozade, listen to Newstalk, read The Star League of Ireland"
    I phoned the speaking clock to hear a voice speak, it said - "At the tone you will be very much alone"
