    New signings

Before posting on this thread I'd like to lay down a few ground-rules for you to undoubtedly ignore.

    1. Keep it realistic - the likes of Zidane, Ronaldo and Raul are unlikely to see the appeal of Pike Field on a wet Sunday afternoon. While we're at it so are Kevin Hunt and John O'Flynn.

    2. Prospective signings are going to be different depending on whether or not we go up so keep that in mind too!

    Now, the slk shopping list!

    1. A goalkeeper
We badly need a goalkeeper. As things stand, Healy is far too inconsistent and Fyffe is nowhere near playing. There's actually not a lot of options around the first division to be honest. If we go up I think we should try and get back Noel Mooney. If Cork don't want to release him then a loan deal should suit both clubs as Pat Dolan doesn't name a goalkeeper amongst his subs so it would give Mooney regular football. Failing Mooney it might be worth looking at the lad who was with us a few years ago (and was crap) but was having a super season with Dundalk until he got injured up there. I think he's called Anthony Fennelly. He's from Cork so Limerick would be a much better option location-wise. The only stumblingblock would be money as he's on a lot of cash with Dundalk. At a push it might be worth looking at David O'Neill with Kilkenny or even trying to take Graham Loughman back. More unlikely options would include Ciaran Kelly of Sligo or (if they miss out and we go up) Chris O'Connor of Bray. There's not a lot of top class keepers in the First Division to be honest and not a lot of classy reserves to choose from in the Premier.

    2. Defence
I think we need a couple of players here, a natural left-back and another player to provide cover. this time I have two players very much in mind. Mark Hutchison (ex Dundee, Shels, Sligo, Harps and Kildare) is currently without a club. He's a very good defender, usually used at left-full and I think he'd bring some experience and a lot of ability to our team. Paul Leahy has fallen out of favour with Waterford this year. He can play anywhere accross the back four or midfield and would give a lot of options. He's still young enough too. Other players I'd consider would be young Rossiter with Sligo or again if Bray failed to go up what about Wes Charles?

    3. Midfield
In Heffernan, Cosgrove, Sugrue and O'Donoghue we have plenty of options on the wings. Sweeney and Hughes provide a good fulcrum in the middle too though John Whyte is getting on and we need another option there. I liked what I saw of David Dunphy for Kilkenny this year and wouldn't be too upset if I saw him in a Limerick shirt again (JoeSoap will disagree ) Otherwise I'd have a look at some of Cork's fringe players - Hedderman surely won't want to stay with Derry now, Colin O'Brien maybe an option there too.

    4. Attackers
We need another striker to back up Derek and Steven. I'm open to suggestions on this. if we do go up though what about a cheeky bid for Alan Murphy? Waterford must have a couple of experienced players not getting their game too with Vinny Sullivan and Neale Fenn ruling the roost in the RSC.

    So people, your thoughts?
The ball is round and has many surprises.

Mooney is a good goalkeeping option. If Hutchison is free and available, then he should definitely be pursued. If his cruciate mends, Gareth Cooney must be on our shortlist if Bohs don't renew his contract. He'd be a vital cog to our midfield.Tony Tynan and Yelverton from Queenstown might fancy a crack at the big time. I'm totally going to ignore the "D" word... I think Hedderman is pure drivel, and no way will O'Brien leave Cork.
On the striking front, I'd like to throw a strange name in...Frankie Stewart of Pike. A dynamic little player, he scored the winner in the Munster Junior final last year, and is playing really well I gather.

Pat McGarry currently centre half with Hill Celtic saw him play lately and would definitely be an asset for Limerick FC. Big man in the Pat Purcell mode-he's also a prominent GAA player with Claughaun.

Glad you agree about both Mooney and Hutchison for starters! Totally agree about Cooney as well. I'd love to see Yelverton with Limerick but I'm not so sure about Tynan who also seemed a bit too 'brainless winger' for me.

As for Frankie Stewart, if he's the guy I think he is I've only seen him once so can't really judge him but wasn't overly impressed on that display. Though speaking of junior players I've heard good things about Brian Buckley and Robbie Kelleher. Anybody know any more about them?

    mmm

Buckley is an uncomprimising center back 20/21 i think, irish junior international and wants to go to a higher level, and is interested in Limerick. Kelliher is a wayne rooney type of guy small but very fast and strong but hes an alco. The view have a few good young lads, Guiran, and Johnny Lyons but again keeping them away from drink will be the problem. Frankie Lee at Balla would be a good addition. Mooney maybe but his money yes...hes loaded and is a mad limerick nut! Yelverton is a must but fu..ck Tynan. No way too rude to us fans when we gave him a bit of friendly advice speeking of that type of player id look at Alan Murphy of Galway, looks retared but hea equal right!

Pat McGarry is, to all intents and purposes, an alcoholic. He got frozen out at Pike 'cos he would turn up reeking of liquer, and his discipline on the pitch is terrible. How that would be an asset to anyone but an inter-pub team amazes me!!

Joe dont be slangging those not in the know sush as yourself. Cooney nice lad lets get him back. we'll need a squad of about 20 and a full all local under 21 side for our move into the premier next season. Graham Loughman to captain the 21s. Oh and when hes served his suspension, Barry Ryan (another local) in 15 months time lol

But I do know him gael, and I know his ex-manager at Pike, and a lot of his ex-team mates will confirm this.
I've just realised which Barry Ryan you were talking about, by the way..(sham rovers variety??).....phew!!!! I thought you meant someone else...

Ok joe i just saw the lad playing a couple of times and was very impressed and i wouldn't have an insight into his personal life like you seem to possess! So he's a flawed genius in the Tony Adams, Gazza mould

    Foot.ie!

buckley is class a ball playing centre half a bit light though. paul tobin and james walsh of saint michaels are too acomplished defenders both junior internationals they would never be able to turn down premier division footie . if offered a chance of playin with the mighty lims. i think corbally have a good young centre half and james hayes of fairview is lightning both would be good u21s. is dave mcauley still signed the guy who plays gaelic with monaleen. also i hear kilmallock and charleville have a few lads playin youth football in dublin get them if we have u21s next year.as for more experienced players sit tight and wait till start of next season you never know what could happen bohs shels cork etc all have big squads and you never know who could fall out of favour and we could make some crazy inexpensive loan signings. has anyone ever heard of ken ryan the best player playin junior soccer in ireland

if ur lookin for a local striker who would sign for limerick may i suggest the prolific Shane Fahy playin in division 1A for caherdavin. he was top of the scorin charts all last year and has continued that form this season.
he has been approached by a few premier clubs but chose to fight on with caherdavin to try get promotion.

    Anyone heard of him??
another suggestion is Sean Flanagan for Hill Celtic

i know a great player who was playin for Cork city up until Febuary this year. His name is Shane Browne, plays anywhere in midfield. He was voted Cork City player of the year at U21 level for last season, when they won the FAI U21 league. He left City cause Dolan came in and never gave him a chance. He's friends with steve O Flynn for years as he's from Mallow, and he was actually training with Lims at the start of the season for a couple of weeks but could'nt continue due to work commitments. He's a buddy of sweeneys as well.at the mo,he's playin for Fermoy in Munster Senior league Premier but i was talkin to a couple of lads at city and they were sayin that he would jump at the chance to join Lims.really lads,i saw this boy play last season at city and he is just the type of player we need now in midfield, aggressive, quick, skillfull, good passer of the ball too.Our loss..........

i was talking to the aforementioned mark hutchision in a reputable sligo nightclub recently and it seems the reason he hasnt a club is that he wants to concentrate on his business ( he is a carpenter by trade) i asked him would he play for rovers again and his reply was to the effect of " not while o riordan is in charge" which tells yyou a lot about how experienced pros feel about the managment skills of our good friend mr o riordan
